I loved making mud pies when I was a kid but I never asked my siblings or friends to eat them because I knew they weren’t real pies no matter how beautifully I constructed them. I enjoyed the feel of the wet earth in my fingers as it would squish in and out and made my hands feel gritty and yet somehow smoother when I ran water over them.

Proverbs 4:23: Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. The problem with being too busy is that you lose your sense of self. In the race to get it all done, you give up the experience of being fully engaged in anything. The joys of life, such as a meaningful conversation or a healthy, home-cooked meal, become hassles or impediments to getting other things done.

Once upon a time my daughter called me telling me she was to cook dinner for a friend and asking if I had any recipes to suggest. I told her to try ketchicola chicken. Once I explained to her what it was, she responded the same as everyone who has never tried this recipe, “That sounds disgusting.” I am one of those people who will taste almost anything once, so it does not sound “disgusting” to me, but I admit it does sound odd.
