The 74th Annual San Saba County Professional Rodeo will be produced by the Flying C Rodeo Company. The Flying C Rodeo Company has over 25 years in the rodeo industry and specializes in producing award winning rodeos in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arkansas and Louisiana. Owned by Will, Karen, Todd and Casey Cook, Flying C is a family owned rodeo company based out of Madill, Oklahoma.

The San Saba Bands Spring Concert/Awards banquet will start at 6:00pm Thursday May 3, 2012 at the First Baptist Church. 5th grade, 6th Grade, 7th grade, and High School bands will be performing. Parents and community members are encouraged to come listen to the award winning San Saba band program present our annual spring concert titled "A Spirited Spring."

Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the San Saba County Pecan Growers Association will host the annual Pecan Field Day on May 7th at the San Saba Civic Center. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the program beginning at 9:00 o’clock. There will be a $30.00 registration for those who pre-register and $35.00 at the door.

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held Monday, April 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order, established a Quorum present with all in attendance, welcomed everyone to the meeting, followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that there were three motor vehicle accidents in the county in a 48 hour period over the weekend. The first one reported was on April 20th at around 10:30 p.m. and came in as a one car rollover on HWY 45 about five miles north of Richland Springs.

Kenli Beth is proud to announce the arrival of her sister Maci Renee. She is the daughter of Rusty and Tara Roberson of Dublin. The Texas Department of Transportation plans to begin work to replace two bridges on FM 1480 in San Saba County starting April 30. The road will be blocked at Rabbitt Creek to begin demolishing the bridge the first week of May. The replacement will take about three months, weather permitting. During that time, traffic on the east side of the bridge will need to take alternate routes, such as CR 114. Crews will then begin work to replace the bridge at Jerry’s Branch.

The first step in helping abused or neglected children is learning to recognize the signs of child abuse and neglect. The presence of a single sign does not prove child abuse is occurring in a family, but a closer look at the situation may be warranted when these signs appear repeatedly or in combination. If you do suspect a child is being harmed, reporting your suspicions may protect the child and get help for the family.

The Department of Defense announced Monday the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Staff Sgt. Joseph H. Fankhauser, 30, of Mason, Texas, died April 22 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Burleson Arch "B.A." Hopkins, 89, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2012. He was born in Richland Spring, Texas on July 29, 1922, to Benjamin Arch Hopkins and Fannie Burleson Hopkins. He attended school in Richland Springs. B.A. served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war, he attended SMU and lacked only six class hours for graduation when, in 1948, he went to work for Dallas oilman and rancher B.F.

Wynogene "Genie" Taylor Phillips, age 89 of San Saba, Texas passed away in Llano, Texas on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Genie was born on December 29, 1922 to Aurthur Prentice Taylor and Willie Effie Harrell and was a life-long resident of San Saba. Genie loved her church and was a long time member of First Baptist Church of San Saba where she served as a volunteer.

Winner of the Region 15 Citizen Bee - Tanner Weyerts, a senior at San Saba High School, participated in the Citizen Bee Competition at the Region 15 Education Service in San Angelo on Friday, April 13, 2012. The competition included a written test covering historical facts, people, dates, landmark supreme court cases, the constitution, and current events.

Last Tuesday, April 17, San Saba hosted the Hamilton Bulldogs. The game started out innocently enough as the Dillos recorded three outs and proceeded to bat in the bottom of the first Zack Davis and Clayton Perry walked and Luke Cox singled in Davis, moving Perry to second. Pannell singled in Perry to put the Dillos up 2-0 after one inning. Pannell went back to work on the mound by getting a quick ground out and a strike out.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met April 19, 2012 to host the monthly Central Texas Traveling 4-Ball Tournament. There were 33 ladies participating from across central Texas representing nine clubs. The ladies were welcomed by the president, Anita Miles, and then the traveling 4-ball chair, Sandee Hartley, gave the rules and called for tee time.

April 12 - 14,San Saba High School FCCLA students competed and worked for three days in Dallas at the Anatole Hotel. Students also had the opportunity to listen to great motivational speakers, had a concert and a dance and of course lots of fun. Students worked at least one day at competition as a door monitor, runner, or time keeper for events that they were not competing in.

The San Saba Tennis Team played in the Region I – AA Tennis Tournament in Odessa on April 18-19. San Saba competed very well, taking 12 players to the tournament. We came very close in getting our boys doubles and mixed doubles teams to state, but came up just short as both teams finished in third place.

On Thursday, April 17th San Saba Middle School hosted a 9-Hole Golf Tournament at San Saba River Golf Course.
