The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held Monday, March 26th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge, Byron Theodosis called the Court to Order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner, Kenley Kroll gave the invocation followed by the pledges to the American and Texas flags.The Commissioners took action on the following items:1.

A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held Monday, March 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order, established a quorum with everyone present, welcomed everyone to the meeting followed by the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

On Saturday, March 24, 2012, Alan Hale of San Saba competed at the State Meet in the 165lb class. His performance was outstanding. He sucessfully made 8 of the 9 lifts during the meet. He was in ninth place going into the last event and was able to vault all the way up to 5th place and earn a medal.

On March 21st, 2012, the Richland Springs High School One Act Play traveled to Coleman, Texas, to perform in the Zone Contest which included five area schools. Serving as adjudicators on a panel of three were Jim Rambo and Kelly Parker from McClennan Community College in Waco, and Dr. Michael Carmichael from Graham, Texas.

On March 26th, the San Saba County Sheriff's Office arrested Carl Wade Pressley and Lillian Annette King for the Murder of Karen Gail Johnson, 50 of San Saba County. On the evening of the 26th, the body of Bonnie Sawyer Harkey, 86 of San Saba County, was recovered in Leon County by the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and the San Saba County Sheriff's Office.

The monthly meeting of Bend-Chappel County Extension Education Clubs met Monday, March 12 at the Bend Methodist Church. An interesting program was provided by Carolyn McDowell on the oldest form of food preservation - dehydration.

On February 17, 2012, Luke and Landry Sanderson welcomed to their family their sister, Libby Grace. Libby weighed in at 5 pounds 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. Libby's proud parents are Landon and Laurie Sanderson, all of Llano. Proud grandparents are Reverend Doug and Juel Ann Holtzclaw of Goldthwaite, Jim and Kathy Edmondson and Larry and Dana Sanderson all of San Saba.

Daylon Wayne Smith is proud to announce the birth of his little sister, Lynlee Jo Smith, born March 8th at 9:07pm in Brownwood, Texas. Lynlee weighed 8lbs.5oz. and was 21 inches long. The proud parents are Joe Pete and Danna Smith of San Saba. Proud grandparents include Danny and Amy Shaw and Ronnie Pete and Sherry Smith all of San Saba and Bob and Cathie Dawson of Talkeetna, Alaska.

Congressman Mike Conaway will visit San Saba Thursday, April 5 from 1:15 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers at 300 S. Clear Street, San Saba.The congressman will give a legislative update and answer constituents questions.

The First Presbyterian Church, 207 East Commerce, San Saba, Texas, conducted a service of Ordination and Installation for their new minister, Rev. Drew Harrison on Sunday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m.Rev. Harrison is a 2010 graduate of Union Theological Seminary in New York City.He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee and has been married to his wife, Hannah for 3 1/4 years.

It started out on a beautiful morning at the Mill Pond Park pavilion. Registration began at 8 am and all participants were given T-shirts. Over 200 participants signed up to walk and run. Sam Crosby led them in prayer and addressed the crowd with very emotional and touching words, reminding the participants the reason for being there was to raise funds and awareness to fight cancer.

The North San Saba Water Supply Corporation is in the process of upgrading their system. Pipe and valves will be replaced in selected locations. The purpose of this upgrade is to reduce water loss and reduce operating costs. Approximately forty members of the CoOp have volunteered their labor and/or equipment for this project.

The Simpson Creek Extension Education Club met Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the home of Carol Littlefield. The meeting was called to order by President Louise Oswald. By the roll call we had 10 members and 1 guest present. The minutes from our February meeting were read and approved, and the treasurer’s report was given.

Coolidge Henry Ake, 88 of Cherokee passed away Sunday, March 18,2012. Coolidge was born on November 22, 1923 in Concho County, Texas to Jim Henry Ake and Cora Hardin. Coolidge was a Draftsman and worked in aircraft manufacturing for the U.S. Government. Coolidge served his country in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

Dorothy Elizabeth Kane Harkey, 94, of San Saba, passed from this life on the morning of March 20, 2012, at the Scott & White Hospital in Llano, following complications from the fracture of her ankle this January. Dorothy's immediate survivors include her nephew, James B. Oates and his wife, Ann, of Plano; a step-grandson, several great-great nieces and nephews and their descendants, and her church family.

Back on Monday, March 19, the San Saba boys’ baseball team needed to travel to Bangs for their fourth district game of the year. With eminent weather we made the trip anyway and started the varsity game early while we could. Zack Davis led off with a single to the left side and Luke Cox had a single to the right side.

In a small school many of the same students compete in multiple events and are shared among track, tennis, one act play and UIL academic coaches. I admire the students who share of their talents with the many events. It seems we have kids and staff members going every direction almost every night, but we need to make a point to say how proud we are of our students and staff.

JACKSONVILLE, FL. Shelby Hardy won the women’s individual title at the Don Benbow Invitational hosted by Butler University with a seven-over total of 73-77—150. This was Hardy’s second collegiate career individual win and comes just one week after she finished as runner-up medalist at the Stephen F. Austin Crown Classic in Lufkin, missing first place in that tournament by just one stroke.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met March 22, 2012 for play day with the Chair for March, Dorothy Sterner, calling for team play, using one score on the first hole, two scores on the second hole, and all three scores on the third hole. The team of Sandee Hartley, Hattie Rogers, and Jo Ann Snow defeated Anita Miles, Dorothy Sterner, and Jo Ann Hardy.

San Saba had 7 young men qualify for the Regional Meet which was held March 10, 2012. They were Saul Cervantes, Nimo Vega, Alan Hale, Alex Cervantes, Michael McKinnerney, Nathan Amstead, and Diego Montoya. Alan Hale advanced to the State Meet in the 165lb class and Diego Montoya qualified as an alternate in the Super Heavyweight Class.

Last Saturday, March 24, the San Saba JV baseball team competed in a four team, round robin tournament in Blanco. Our first game was against Harper JV. Kolton Ellis and Kelan Verette both had a good game batting. Both of these players went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored, Verette also knocked one in.

The San Saba Tennis Team played two tournaments this past week. The JV Team played in the Fredericksburg JV Tournament on Thursday, March 22 and the Varsity Team played in the Waco Robinson Varsity Tournament on Saturday, March 24. Playing in JV Tournament were Drew Daniels, Jantzen Bell, Emiliano Zapata, Marissa Anaya and Mikayla Eden.
