The San Saba County Commissioners held Court on Monday, March 12th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge, Byron Theodosis, called the Court to Order and welcomed everyone. Commissioner, Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.Kyle McAllister, AFLAC representative, gave a presentation of a Section 125/Supplemental Plan of insurance coverage.

The Richland Springs Drama Club will present a fish fry after church this coming Sunday, March 18th. The fish fry will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. Jeffrey Bates and friends will be cooking the fish, and the RSHS Drama Club has been assured the fish they cook will not be fish from a foreign country.

The new schedule for the Armadillos in 2012 was finalized last week by Coach Jeff Pannell. The longest road trip in the next two years is the district game in Santo of 125 miles. This compares to Sonora and Ozona trips of 150 miles and further.The season opens with a game against the Tolar Rattlers.

About 30% of a preschooler’s daily caloric intake is consumed as snacks. Do preschool children really need to eat snacks? Snacks in this case refer to between-meal eating occasions and not a type of food such as potato chips served with a sandwich at lunch. Young children need between-meal snacks because their energy needs are high, but their tummies may be too small for them to consume all their needed calories in just three meals.

On February 16, 2012, Bill and Pat Grusendorf celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Residents of San Saba since 1974, the Grusendorfs were married at the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco on February 16, 1952. Ladies of the First Baptist Church in Richland Springs have invited the ladies of our county to the Fellowship of Christian Women’s luncheon next Thursday, March 22nd. We will be meeting in the downstairs fellowship hall at 11:30 a.m. for a Spring Treats meal. Dear Editor: I would like to address the sheriff's remarks about our jail made in his report on March the 8th, 2012. Sheriff Brown might consider the noncompliance of our jail a "molehill" but as a taxpayer, I consider the success of our jail to be a monumental issue. We cannot afford to lose our jail.

Well, the wonderful rain shut down the plumbing project at the jail, but we're not complaining at all. I am hopeful that we can finish that project by the end of this week but would rather see God bring on the rain. The jail is running smoothly (although I just jinxed us) and we are finishing up our training and moving forward with some new projects.Patrol is running smoothly and we are looking forward to this week and all the visitors at our parks and in town.

The regular March meeting of the San Saba Garden Club was held at the clubhouse on Tuesday the 6th. After the usual club preliminaries, President Ann McElroy introduced Carolyn McDowell, who is an Honorary San Saba Garden Club member as well as one of the San Saba County Extension Agents.

The Sharon Club met Tuesday, March 6th at St. Luke's fellowship hall with Phyllis Silver and Glennetta Sanderson as hostesses. We had a delicious meal of taco soup and dessert. We had a recipe exchange with roll call being our favorite recipe book. We had no business to discuss.

On Wednesday the 7th of March, Gabriel Matthew Johnson of San Saba was arrested for narcotics charges here in San Saba. Deputies Wilkerson and Stiles were working interdiction when they contacted Johnson and during the investigation illegal narcotics were discovered. Johnson was arrested and transported to the county jail where he was booked in on multiple narcotics charges.

Did you know that San Saba and the surrounding area has public transportation service? Most of you are familiar with the teal green buses running around town, but may think they are for elderly and low income only. Although they are based at the San Saba Senior Center, these buses are used to transport both residents and visitors – of any age and income – to many different destinations.

Jack Warren Wilder 80, of San Saba, Texas was born on June 26, 1931 to Ray and Kate Wilder and passed from this life at Scott and White Hospital on March 8, 2012. Jack graduated from San Saba High School in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met for the monthly business meeting on March 8, 2012 with the president, Anita Miles, calling the meeting to order and Hattie Rogers opened the meeting with prayer. The secretary, Jo Anne Hardy, read the minutes and they were approved as read and the treasurer, Hattie Rogers, gave the financial report.

The baseball boys played three games in three days over at the Hamilton Tournament. We had three good and productive days against three good opponents.Last Thursday, we opened the tournament against Tolar. We scored four in the first inning and five more in the third, building a large early lead that we could hang on to for the rest of the game.

Richland Springs may be a small Class A school, but it has a 5 AAAAA attitude. “Bigger is better” does not necessarily apply to small schools. In a small community like Richland Springs, the school is the nucleus of the community. The small size of the school encourages interaction between the staff and students.
