The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Tuesday, February 28th at 9 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge, Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the Court. The San Saba Tennis Team played in the Region V 2A & Under Regional Tournament in Leander on March 2-3. The tennis team came in second place which qualifies them for the State Team Tennis Tournament on March 9-10 in Round Rock, Leander area. This will be the 21st year and the 16th year in a roll that the tennis team has qualified for the state team tennis tournament.

District 6-AA All-District basketball selections were released last week. Three Armadillo basketball players were selected to this year’s All-District team. Honors go to Luke Cox – 1st Team, Clayton Perry and Ryan Pannell – 2nd Team, and J.T. Mathis and Zack Davis –Honorable Mention. Congratulations to these young men.

This past week I went to San Saba to run some errands and pick up some grocery items at Super S grocery for my wife. At the check out stand I was asked for my drivers license. Being 67 years old I was taken back at the idea of being ID'd for a 6 pack of beer.

Sid Miller, State Representative of Stephenville, TX, paid a surprise visit to the veterans of the Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 of the American Legion on Friday, February 17th. Under the new district guidelines, San Saba County will soon be in State District No. 59. Deputies Stiles and Barrows conducted a traffic stop at the west end of San Saba Saturday the 3rd and illegal narcotics were recovered from a vehicle. Joshua Mason of Cherokee was arrested for Possession of Marijuana > 2ounces but < 2 pounds. The deputies stopped Mason for a traffic violation and during the stop the odor of marijuana was detected.

Well it has been steady both at the jail and on the streets. We are finishing up our sewer line project and hopefully will be completely through by the end of this week. We have been busy working in and around the jail and have our garden plowed but still working on the planting.

The monthly meeting of the Austin Scottish Rite Valley will be held on Wednesday, March 7th in Austin. The educational class will begin at 5:30 p.m. concerning the 20th degree. A meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. The stated meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. All Scottish Rite Masons that would like to attend are welcome to carpool from the San Saba Lodge.

Gary Lee Larremore went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 28, 2012. Gary was born on May 18, 1956 in Brady, Texas to Weida and Clayton Larremore. Gary grew on up in Hall Valley. He graduated from Richland Springs High School in 1974. He married Marsha Lynn Gober, his high school sweetheart, in May 1976.

Jean Sowers 87, of San Saba, Texas passed away Monday, February 28, 2012. Jean was born January 17, 1925 in Lampasas County, Texas the daughter of Robert Alexander Broyles and Leola Keeney Broyles. Jean spent her childhood in San Saba County, where she attended school. Jean attended business school in Austin, Texas.

The San Saba 5th/6th Grade Junior Lady Dillos improved their season record to 9-0 by winning the San Saba Basketball Tournament. The Lady Dillos defeated Goldthwaite in the quarter-final round, 28-7, Marble Falls in the semi-finals, 42-13 and Richland Springs in the Championship Game, 37-22. Traveling and participating in events such as Little Dribblers basketball, baseball, tennis, track, UIL academics, UIL one act plays and assorted meetings seems to leave little free time. Spring break is always a welcome event where students, faculty and staff can rest and revitalize for the remainder of the busy school year.

On Valentine's Day, the San Saba FCCLA held an extra special event for many of the Freshman girls at San Saba High School to discuss the importance of Inner Beauty.This project was inspired by three Sophomores: Jessica Ramirez, Shaina Woodward and Gennie Hamilton. They spent a couple hours with the girls discussing the importance of feeling good about who you are and not letting the media and society influence the true you.

Isaac Jimenez of San Saba, Texas, is the newest member of the Mustang Heritage Found-ation’s Youth Employment Program. Jimenez is taking part in the 12-week work-from-school program. Our class is going to participate in a Youth Employment Program with the Mustang Heritage Foundation. We are doing this because we care about horses.

What a wonderful start to the season this year. I couldn’t be prouder of our Lady Dillo softball players. We started the year beating Brady 14-1 in an offensive onslaught. We followed that up by beating a very good DeLeon team 6-1. We traveled to the Stephen-ville tournament the second week of the season.

Paige Chambers of San Saba, Texas, is the newest member of the mustang Heritage Found-ation’s Youth Employment Program. Chambers is taking part in the 12-week work-from-school program. I am an employ of the Youth Employment Program. My involvement in this program is to help out the Mustang Heritage Foundation I have always been interested in horses ever since I was a little girl.

Wow, what a GREAT event we had Monday night. The first annual Parent Academy proved to be as interesting and meaningful as we had hoped. I am so very proud of our students, teachers, principals, counselor, custodians, para professionals, cafeteria staff, central office staff, transportation and maintenance as they all stepped up to the challenge and played a key role in making this event truly a Parent focused informational time.
