A series of six vehicles and three businesses were broken into over the last 45 days or so in the City of San Saba. Two of the vehicle burglaries were cleared by the Sheriff's office and the evidence turned over to the police department for further investigation but the others have unknown dispositions at this time.

Congressman Mike Conaway will be holding a Town Hall Meeting in San Saba, January 27 at 10:15 a.m.. The meeting will be in the City Council Chambers, 303 S. Clear (next to City Hall). Congressman Conaway will listen to local residents' concerns and answer questions regarding current issues in Congress.

The San Saba County Commissioners Court met on Monday, January 23rd in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge, Bryon Theodosis called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the Court. On Thursday, the 19th of this month, Justin Daniel Salinas was sentenced to 20 years in the Texas Department of Corrections for violating his probation on a drug conviction. 33rd District Judge Dan Mills heard the case and sentenced Salinas, whose original charge was for Possession of a Controlled substance (Methamphetamine) more than four grams but less than 200 grams in a drug free zone.

San Saba County Ministerial Alliance will be hosting a Fifth Sunday Community Singing at the First Presbyterian Church this Sunday night, January 29 at 6:00 p.m.All are welcome and refreshments will be served after the service. This is one of our fund raising events for the Alliance to help us meet the increasing emergency needs of our community.

Saturday Lola Morris had visitors from Round Rock and Deer Park, Dorothy Morris and Bernice of Deer Park came and the ladies had a lot of catching up to do. It has been some time since Dorothy and her sister had paid a visit to the Bend.Jim Hicks reported on his grandkids who were in different shows this past weekend.

Country singer Steve Mitchell will be appearing Saturdays at Pepperbelly's Mexican Restaurant, 517 East Wallace in San Saba, from 6:00 - 8:00. There will be plenty of good food and good music. Mitchell, from Branson, Mo., will be singing some good country classics and a variety of pop and Western songs from the '40s through the '60s era.

The monthly meeting of Bend-Chappel County Extension Education Clubs met Monday, Jan 9 at the Bend Methodist Church. Dean Brown, Secretary/Treasurer reported that funds collected over the past year went toward gifts in support of the Angel Tree Project in December and, in addition, a monetary gift was given to the San Saba Ministerial Alliance.

Adam and Brooke Bagley would like to announce the birth of their son, Luke Dean, born January 4 in Georgetown at 12:28 p.m. He weighed 6 lbs. and 10 oz. and was 20 inches long. He is welcomed home by his big sister, Sofia Grace. Grandparents are Dean and Alita Bagley of South Padre Island and Karen and Don Henson of Bowie.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met January 19, 2012 for play day and the sun was shining brightly and it was a great play day. Jo Anne Hardy called the game for the day, the traveling 4-ball point system using team play. The 4-ball system is where you are awarded a point for a boggie, two points for a par, and three points for a birdie plus your handicap.

We had over 30 items donated for the raffle, including a cedar rocking chair donated by Myers Moulding in Lampasas. We also had lots of cash donations and baked goods.

This Friday night January 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 28 at 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the historic LanTex Theater, the Extension Education Club will treat you to the zany antics of the Muppets, starring James Segel and Amy Adams and Chris Cooper. The proceeds will help fund their projects, which includes local scholarships.With the help of three fans, the gang must reunite to save their old theater from a greedy oil tycoon.

On Wednesday, February 1st, San Saba Scottish Rite Club will be traveling to the University of Texas at Austin to visit Scottish Rite Dormitory for Women. Members will meet at the Lodge Hall in San Saba and carpool, leaving at 11:00 a.m. Scottish Rite Masons are reminded to bring their regalia and caps.

The Wallace Creek Extension Education Club met Thursday, January 19 at the home of Imogne Hawkins.President Lynn Blankenship called the meeting to order. The members answered the roll call "Name something you have in your purse that is necessary." There were no minutes from the last meeting, but the report of the November Thanksgiving Dinner and the results of the San Saba County Pecan Food Show was given for the members of the club.

Receipts totaled 2060 head for the week. Another choice offering of calves were on hand this week with very good quality and condition. The market was very active and demand strong. Stocker and feeder steers and heifers all sold steady compared to last week’s market with some of the lighter heifers $2-$3 higher.

The "Take a Child Hunting" program concluded the 2011-2012 season Saturday, January 7th. 74 boys from 13 children's homes hunted at 21 area ranches harvesting 67 animals. On Tuesday, February 29, the Lampasas County Extension Service will hold a private pesticide applicator training and testing. This training/testing will allow individuals to acquire the TDA license required to purchase and use restricted pesticides. This training will be held at the Lampasas County Annex Conference Room located at 409 S Pecan, and will begin at 8:00 a.m.

San Saba County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Valerie Cortinovis, announced that sign-up for the 2012 Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) and the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program starts on January 23, 2012 and continues through June 1, 2012. “I encourage producers to make an appointment with our office to sign-up for program benefits,” said Cortinovis.

Mrs. Clyde Sweeney, Sr. (Clarice Moody) passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 in Stephenville, TX. She was born July 25, 1923 in Thurber, TX to Joe and Willie Lawson Moody. She weighed approximately 2 pounds at birth and the doctors said she wouldn't survive. Thanks to her mother and others in the "Company Town"

James Stancle (Jim) Walker, age 78 of Lampasas died Thursday January 19, 2012 at Regal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Jim was born July 24, 1933 in Coleman County, Texas the son of J.T. (Pete) Walker and Ioma (Ensor) Walker. He was a resident of Lampasas most of his life. Jim served in the U.S.

Marjorie Vesta Frizzell, 88 of Round Rock Texas, passed away Sunday January, 22, 2012 in her home under care of Hospice Compassus. Marjorie was born November 20, 1923 to Carlton R. Harris and Ollie Rawls Harris. Ulys M (Buck) Frizzell and Marjorie were united in marriage on December 23, 1939 in San Saba Texas.

The Armadillos hosted the Hico Tigers on Jan. 17. Both teams got off to a slow start offensively with each team scoring 6 points in the first quarter. The second quarter wouldn’t be much different with the Dillos scoring 7 and Hico scoring 8. The Dillos trailed 13-14 at the half.

Last Friday ended the 3rd week of the 4th six-week grading period. Student notices of concern will be mailed this week. The 2010-2011 yearbooks are available for $25. See Pam Starr to purchase a yearbook before they are all gone! The Lady Coyotes are 9-11 on the season and 0-7 in district play.

It’s hard to believe it’s already the end of January! Kids have been hard at work with basketball and stock show happenings. Last Monday, the junior high hosted Lometa. Both teams won! On Tuesday night the varsity hosted two tough Menard teams. Both teams lost. On Friday, the Indians and Lady Indians traveled to Lometa.

The JV boys basketball team had another good week this past week. On Tuesday the 17th of January the Dillos hosted Hico and won that game by the score of 49-19.Scoring for the JV Dillos: Garrett Welch (13), Luis Vega (5), Isaac Zepeda (3), Kelton Brown (16), Joe Lindsey (2), Marcus Sterling (6), Caleob Hardman (2), and Emiliano Zapata (2).On Friday the 20th our teams traveled to Comanche and won that game by the score of 52-22.

San Saba’s 8th grade boys played in the Comanche Jr. High Tournament on Jan. 21. In the first game of the tournament we faced 3A Brownwood’s A team. Even though we were out sized and out manned, the 8th grade Dillos took it down to the wire and went into overtime with Brown-wood’s A team but came up just short losing 33-35.

It has been a tradition in San Saba ISD to host an open house for all parents once a semester. This spring semester is no different; however, there will be a change to the format. Parents will get to choose sessions of their interest. A Parent Celebration Meal will be hosted in the high school cafeteria for all parents at 5:00pm on March 5th.

The San Saba Tennis Team will open its season with a team match against Lampasas at Lampasas High School on Thursday, January 26 at 4:00 p.m. The tennis team will play a team match at home on Thursday, February 2, against Heritage High School from Fredericksburg. The match will start at 4:00 p.m.

San Saba ISD was the recipient of a grant that was provided by the Texas Association of School Boards(TASB). The grant is one that provides upgrades or installation of safety type equipment that will make the campus or district operate more efficiently and more safely and can be applied to a multitude of areas.
