Matthew 24:21-22 "For then shall be great tribulation, since as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened; there should no flesh be saved."The Bible was written a long time ago to warn of the many world troubles we are seeing right now.

Could someone please tell me when Christmas became an economic boom and ceased to be about a season of humble appreciation and celebration of life? I don’t mean to sound like someone critical of American enterprise here but if I see another commercial with elves or car salesmen who look like Santa, I may just have to start growing all my own food and ride my bike everywhere I go.

Of all the stories in the Bible, the one I like the most is the story of Elijah. Elijah was a prophet of God who spoke God’s message when Ahab was king of Israel. Ahab was an evil king and even referred to Elijah as “you troubler of Israel.” (1 Kings 18:17).

I remember when I was still a little kid and Christmas was SO EXCITING because I knew Santa was coming to see me and I was going to get some really cool toys. Then I got a bit older, too old for Santa to bring me toys, and Christmas lost much of its magic.

The Austin music scene for me begins before first light, when the resident mockingbird tunes up while I get the newspaper. He is followed by the male Carolina wren, who after sleeping under the eaves of our front porch, sings “teakettle, teakettle, teakettle, tea” in the courtyard to let me know that he has survived to greet another day.
