Man alive, has it been busy in the San Saba County jail! I have seen our jail staff continually have to pick up the pace week after week. The calls for service are up both in the county and in the city as well. The traffic has been steady and it seems that we will have to wait a while for a slowdown of any kind. The jail has been running at no less than six, with the numbers ranging from that to eight and ten.

A friend, while posing for a picture, saw a sign that read, "You get what you pay for.":"What does that mean?" he asked."A twenty-five-dollar picture is a 'Justice Picture', "said the photographer. "It's just as you are. The fifty-dollar picture is a 'Mercy Picture.' It makes you look better."When the proofs come back, he said, "I needed mercy."Don't we all!We aren't so close to perfection that we can be spiritual policemen over the lives of others.

The good news is that 2/10 inch of rain was received this past week. Folks that got their seed in the fields at the right time are happy because everything came up and doing well. We can always use some more rain.Hopefully the spooks who will be out roaming Monday won’t scare away a chance of rain, but don’t think we have anything to fear as no rain was in the forecast.

The JH Bulldogs of Mullin couldn’t quite get their paws around the football last Thursday night at Bulldog Stadium. Nothing stalls a drive any quicker than a fumble, and the JH Bulldogs put the ball on the ground 7 times, recovered by the alert Coyotes. I’m sure the drizzling rain had something to do with the slick football, but more likely, the loose footballs were caused by the Coyotes hitting the Bulldog runners as they were trying to receive the handoffs.
