For a limited time, you can purchase up to two discounted adult tickets at $10 each (regular $15). Adults are 18 years of age and older. The offer is limited to two tickets per family, a savings of $5 per adult. Children over 5 years of age and under 18 are $5 per ticket anytime. These special price wristbands can be purchased at San Saba City Hall or Harry's through Saturday, October 15.

Cherokee ISD has joined 151 other school districts in the state to join with the Equity Center to file lawsuit against the State of Texas over public education. One of the big issues at stake is the inequity of funding and one component of that is the hold harmless revenue that the state has placed school districts under.

The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD met on Monday, October 10th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration office for a regular meeting. President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order and established a quorum with all Trustees present. Dear Editor, Even though I am going to vote FOR the bond that will build a new elementary school and high school Science labs in San Saba, I appreciate Mr. Pulatie’s letter to the editor in the September 15, 2011 issue of The San Saba News and Star. I have not been able to understand the reasoning and logic for people being against building much needed facilities at zero rate bonds.

The San Saba Health Fair will be held Tuesday November 1st, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Saba Civic Center. The fair, sponsored by the the Scott & White Hospital of Llano and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service-San Saba County, is free to the public. Approximately 50 booths will be available for participants to view.

The Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service Llano County office, will hold its Fall Beef Cattle Field Day on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at the Llano County Community Center. The program will start at 9:00 a.m. and last until approximately 3:00 p.m. The cost of the Field Day will be $20 per person in advance or $25 per person at the door.

Last Thursday the Dillos traveled to Harper and faced a good Longhorn football team. But the Dillos came out on top again; defensively the Dillos were led by the hard-hitting Kadyn Saiz who led the Dillo Defense with help from Jose Guerrero, Elisha Cisneroz, Billy Holland, Dalton Pierce and Jayden Braja.

The San Saba Armadillos traveled to Harper to battle the Longhorns in District 13 action last Friday night. The Armadillos came away with a dominating 44-0 victory. San Saba amassed 352 yards rushing and 90 yards passing while the Armadillo defense held Harper to 79 yards total offense. Harper won the coin toss and wanted the football to start the game.

Seven new local San Saba High School FCCLA officers traveled to Dallas, Texas on September 25-26 to receive special training with over 300 other students at the downtown Sheraton in Dallas. The conference was centered on learning what the role of peer educator is and examined issues facing youth on topics such as: school violence, financial literacy, teen safe driving, childhood obesity, and environmental issues. We finally put it all together and played well for 4 quarters both offensively and defensively. The result was a 43-0 victory. We scored touchdowns on our first two offensive plays. It was all down hill from there for Harper. Our linemen did a great job of opening holes for our backs and our backs did a great job of running.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met on September 29, 2011 for the monthly business meeting. The president, Anita Miles, called the meeting to order and Hattie Rogers opened the meeting with special prayer for Bobbie Churchill and Mabel Letbetter who have serious health issues. San Saba County 6-man football fans enjoyed a treat last Thursday night in Richland Springs. The JH Coyotes played the Cherokee Indians JH, in a hard fought, fast moving game that featured big hits, and outstanding offense and defensive football play. The San Saba County Shoot-Out was all tied up at 19 wins each, until last Friday night, when the Coyotes of Richland Springs defeated the Cherokee Indians 59-14, in a game that ended at the half, due to the mercy rule. Most of the games in this rivalry, which began in 1921, have been a little lop-sided, with each team trading win streaks by the decades.

San Saba's 8th Grade Dillos defeated Harper's Longhorns in Harper by a score of 32-6. This was a district opener for both teams. San Saba was in control from the beginning. Harper kicked to San Saba to begin the contest. Holt Oliver returned the kick 20 yards, Emiliano Rocha gained 9 yards, was held for no gain, then added runs of 7, 5, and 2 yards.

The past couple weeks have been busy for the cross country team. Last week we traveled to Lometa on Sept. 27 On Wednesday, Oct. 5 In the boys division, Hector Paez placed 6 Over the past couple weeks, I thought our kids competed extremely hard and I was very proud of them. As I’m writing this, all I can think about is district being two weeks away and how anxious I am for all the kids.

Today began a new day in the quest to Raise The Bar at SSHS. We began today a Mentoring Program called "Mentoring Matters". We had 17 volunteers from the community and of course we had 33 folks that are regular teachers, administrators or aids. All last week we worked with our students letting them choose between all the Mentors that we had posted on the wall.

The Academic Booster Club of SSHS wants to announce a new spot in the trophy case at SSHS. This current school year, we have tried to highlight academic excellence, as the mantra for the club is "Encouraging Academic Excellence". The center section of the trophy case this year has been devoted to all students that scored in the commended level on all TAKS tests they took last year.
