Specialists who have studied eagles tell us that when the time comes, the mother bird will push her young out of the nest. She will let a frightened fledgling drop a distance of 90 feet or more before she swoops down under it and carries it back to safety. This procedure is repeated about every 15 minutes until the eaglet begins to fly on its own.
