On June 4, 2011, Haylee Oliver and Tucker Cromer played in the Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) All Star games in Abilene, TX.
It was quite an honor for the two Armadillos standouts to be invited to participate in the weeks activities. But, Oliver and Cromer were not going to be satisfied with just representing San Saba by participating in the All Star events; they dominated.
Not only did Oliver lead all scorers in the FCA Myrle Greathouse Classic All Star B ...

2 Peter 3:10 - "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat; the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up."
We know the Lord has destroyed the entire world twice by water, but He promised He would never do that again.

When we discovered this wonderful, quiet sanctuary called San Saba five years ago and decided to buy a house to make it our home to live out our lives, I spent the first three of those at Woodlawn renovating with just Patches for company. I don’t think that house had seen a coat of paint since it had been built and the carpet, appliances, bathroom fixtures were all original so we pretty much went from floor up and did it all ourselves.

Did you know that without water, we will die in a few days. We can live without food for several weeks. More than half the weight of the body is water. Water is very important especially in the very hot weather we are having this summer.
Why do we need water?

Our Heavenly Father expects, desires, yearns, for us to know Him personally. To know God is to be reading His Word, the Bible. Here I can find all the attributes of God. I can see how He has worked in the lives of His followers and can pattern my life like His.
At the same time there are things that make me sit up and take notice.

A recent trip your Pecan Grove news correspondent, Mrs. Eli Rawls, took with members of the Los Angeles Cactus and Succulent Society to Baja, California was most interesting to anyone with the hobby of cactus growing and it yielded about 500 new species to add to her cactus garden.
Tragedy ended a Fourth of July outing when a 12 year old boy from Killeen slipped from a muddy cliff overhanging the Colorado River at ...

Same old news, no rain in the past week but maybe a slight chance for next weekend. Most people have just given up on their gardens. You just can’t water enough. Our chickens are enjoying the plants that we are pulling up and giving to them.
There were two tables of players at the 42 tourney last Saturday night.

Matthew 9:36: "When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd."
When you are "distressed" and "dispirited" you become discouraged. Discouragement never comes from God!
Someone once said: "Discouragement is the anesthetic the devil gives you just before taking out your heart."

Let’s see…we have covered boarding, eating, sleeping, and where you put your stuff. On to what you do when you are on a train, other than just ride.
One of my favorite things about riding a train as opposed to cars or airplanes is that you can freely get up and move around.

Wow, has it been hot or what? I have never in my life looked forward to cold weather, but please someone bring on the snow. Actually, I would give anything for any type of precipitation that would actually make it to the ground in San Saba County. Let's all keep rain in our prayers and hope that the ranchers and farmers can hold on.
We all know that with the lack of rainfall comes the increased danger of fire.

Three-year-old Carla was helping her mother deliver newspapers.
"Let me do one," she begged.
So the mother drove her pickup to a box on Carla's side, and Carla leaned out of the window. But she leaned too far, and fell to the ground.
Terrified, the mother jumped out of the cab and picker her up.

No surprise to anyone that we still have had no rain and the heat is still with us. There maybe an upside to the heat though-start using the sun to cook outside. Wrap your food in foil, lay it on a rock and let the sun cook it, sure would save heating up the house and at the same time be going green.

Let it rain. Let it rain. Let it rain. Let it rain, let it pour! The words to that worship song are very appropriate right now. This country is experiencing a big hurt! I have decided to put aside 7:00am each morning for prayer on this subject. If two or more would like to pray with me at that time, perhaps the Lord will take pity on us and send us a much needed rain.
I went by to visit Candi Lewis last week.

Q: Is the saying "red sky at night, sailor’s delight, red sky at morning, sailor take warning" really accurate?
A: Generally, the answer is yes, says Brent McRoberts of Texas A&M University. The saying has been around for thousands of years and is even mentioned in the Bible in the book of Matthew: "When in evening, ye say, it will be fair weather, for the sky is red; and in the morning, it will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and lowering."

Gardening here is not for the faint of heart. We have already had triple digit weather from May forward plus those insidious high winds. Later this month, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will release the "accountability" ratings for Texas public schools. The reason I put the word accountability in quotation marks is simple.
