An abundance of home grown fruits and vegetables often triggers the desire to can foods at home. While this can be a fun and rewarding way to keep foods long after the season ends, care must be taken to assure that foods canned at home are safe to eat.
Following research-based methods and using tested recipes are just things to consider when canning foods at home.

Chasing Shadows,
On a warm Saturday night in July 1973 in Bethesda, Maryland, a gunman stepped out from behind a tree and fired point-blank shots into Jose F. Alon, an unassuming Israeli Air Force pilot and family man. Alon's sixteen year old neighbor, Fred Burton, was deeply shocked by this crime that rocked his sleepy suburban neighborhood.

A smile costs nothing, but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business, and is the countersign of friendship. It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is natures best antidote for trouble.
Numbers 6:25: "May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you."

A piece of furniture from the house of worship, the ark of the covenant, had to be moved. A brand new cart was hewn for the task. Uzza was one of the drivers. The cart faltered. Uzza put out his hand to steady the cargo. "The anger of the Lord burned against Uzza, so He struck him down because he put out his hand to the ark; and he died there before God"

I think Saturday night was the next best thing to heaven! Russ and I went to the rodeo arena and the dust was flying everywhere. A sad conclusion of last week’s election is that the citizens of San Saba care more about whiskey than kids. As a descendant of the pioneer families that settled this county, I have many compelling reasons to return to the land of my forebears. However, I would be reluctant to raise my children in a community that did not value the education of the young.
Sincerely,
Will Harkey

People often confuse the day with Veterans Day (November 11th), and make mention of their sacrifice. Still others think the day is to honor all of the dead.
