One of the best tools to use for establishing healthy eating habits is reading nutrition labels. People with diabetes should especially read the Nutrition Facts information on the food label for the calorie content for one serving of that food, and for the fat (saturated fat and trans fat), protein, sodium, and total carbohydrate (fiber and sugars) content of the food.

One of the great lessons in the Bible is obedience. After God made His creation He expected the created to obey Him. In Genesis 3 we see the first sin as Eve was deceived by Satan and she and her husband ate from the tree from which God had forbidden them to eat.

We are having some nice, warm days after a low of 30 degrees on Sunday morning. We are expected to reach 80 degrees this week. That is Texas weather for you!
Don’t forget to "spring forward" next Sunday as we begin daylight savings time. You don’t want to show up late for church.
We are sorry to report that Jr.

With the country in the early stages of an economic crisis, Annie knows she has no right to complain.

This may usually be somewhat of a strenuous time of the year for many folks that are ready for outdoor activity. The uncertain predictability of our recent weather conditions has made it fairly arduous for folks whether they might have interests in yard, garden, golfing, or fishing. Have hope, though, as intermitten periods of fair weather will occur.
Most gardeners have their plots tilled and some have already put their onion sets out.

When we hear, "I’ll get back with you," we have some anticipation of the person’s response. We figure that the real answer is no – they just don’t say no.
Paul essentially heard these words from Felix after he trembled at the teaching of the gospel. He was interested and possibly convicted that he needed to make a change, but not moved to action.

Dear Editor:
In my opinion law enforcement seldom gets credited for their courtesies and simple gestures of kindness to local citizens, not to mention strangers, which prompts me to write this letter.
Recently friends from Arizona came to visit and the plan was to meet at the Court House square. It was Sunday and as they waited for me on the bench, Sheriff Brown walked up, shook their hand and gave a courteous and sincere welcome to San Saba.

As much as I enjoy winter, spring is probably the most exciting time of the year for me. I think it is because you can actually see something happening day-by-day. One day you look outside and there is just a hint of bright green in the landscape here and there where the new grass is starting to grow under the gray, dead grass.

I can only start this week off with, "which way did he go?" That's the way I feel after the last two weeks we have had here at the Sheriff's office. We have seen a huge spike in arrests and the jail staff have been extremely busy as well as the deputies.

When your temper gets the best of you, it reveals the worst of you. And getting revenge is something you do to the other person, to make yourself feel worse.
So our Lord said, "If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also."
That troubled Sir Walter Scott until he had an experience with a stray dog.
He threw a rock at him to chase the dog away.

When I was a youngster, we visited Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. Once inside a huge subterranean cavern, our guides turned out the lights. There was deep darkness. We could not see our hand in front of our face. The guide struck a match. We stood amazed at how such a tiny light pushed away the heavy black veil of darkness.

The weather so far has been up and down with of course the wind. Woke up Saturday with a temp in the twenties, and lots of wind. It did warm up some, but the wind made it feel colder. Sunday was another cool morning, Monday not too bad with no wind.

She was a beautiful dog and some of our friends said we should show her. She was so good with children and always liked to be petted. She would lay at your feet for hours if you continued to rub on her. We would give her a bath and put perfume on her and sometimes my wife would even tie a little ribbon on her head.

Not too many decades ago, decisions were fewer and much easier to make. In car-buying, color choices were black or white. There was vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream; then Baskin-Robbins busted loose with more flavors than they could think of good names for.
Minds grow dizzy with today’s barrage of choices—paper or plastic, regular or decaf, debit or credit, smoking or non-smoking, etc.
On the cell phone front—and it is a broad one—my skills ...

Another beautiful week in Richland Springs bites the dust. Unfortunately, it’s another week with very little rain. If you listen closely, you can hear the earth groan in pain.
Next week is spring break and the kids are chomping at the bit. Several will be out for the Houston stock show this week.

Is it ironic that the Lenten season began the day after high school cheerleading tryouts? I think it is interesting to look for symbolism in the ordinary events of life. The interesting thing about the Lenten season is that it symbolizes for many Christians a focusing of their faith in the mix of a life that is highly complex and filled with many distractions.
