The San Saba County Commissioners Court met on Monday, February 14th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the meeting. Commissioner Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the American and Texas flags. Johnnie Shahan, representing the San Saba VFD, addressed the court.

The finalists have been selected for the 3rd Annual San Saba Awards Recognition Banquet to be held on March 10, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. in the San Saba Civic Center. These awards will recognize the efforts of individuals and companies that enhance and improve San Saba. Girls break out your grass skirts and guys put on your hawaiian shirts, as the theme of this year’s banquet is "It’s Hula Time In Texas."

The San Saba Senior Center announces a new program called Care, Concern and Comfort for Cancer. This community outreach will provide information, resource materials and support for anyone whose life has been affected by cancer, including family members, those who are recovering, going through treatment or survivors. There will be special guest speakers on a variety of related topics during some of the meetings.

On Wednesday February 2nd, our family suffered the loss of our home with all our belongings and memories. We would like to thank San Saba Sheriff's Department, San Saba EMS, Richland Springs, San Saba, & Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Departments for their hard work. Also, thank you to those firefighters for their compassion towards my husband, daughter and myself.

I, for one, am glad to be back in San Saba after my little adventure in Houston traffic this weekend. My wife, planned a small weekend away, baby sitting for my sister-in-law, so we made a little trip to relax and get away. San Saba Elementary Valentine Box Project - Keeping with tradition, the 4th grade class at San Saba Elementary was encouraged to participate in the Valentine Box Project. Students were asked to design and create a Valentine box that could be categorized as "Most Beautiful," "Most Creative," or "Best Recycling." Three winners were chosen for each category.

Next Thursday, February 24, Fellowship of Christian Women’s Luncheon will gather in the downstairs fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church. If you need help going down the stairs, a new chair lift is now available entering from the front side door. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and features Casseroles and Desserts. In fact, monthly meetings are typically festive occasions that include beautiful table decorations and delicious food. Sometimes, the hostesses bring out "the good dishes" as a way of making the experience even more special. What you may not know is that the purpose of the Club is "to cooperate in any work which may advance the welfare of humanity."

At the regularly scheduled February school board meeting of the San Saba ISD, the trustees called for an election that would provide the voters an opportunty to consider the construction of three new facilities for San Saba ISD. Receipts totaled 577 head for the week which were limited due to extremely cold weather this week. All classes of calves and yearlings sold steady in a strong market. 8Packer cows moved $7 higher with the top selling cows at 88.50 cwt while packer bulls sold $5 higher with the high selling bull at 92.50 cwt.

February 11th was the end of the fourth six-week grading period. It’s hard to believe that this school year is two-thirds complete. Please look for student report cards this week. The Lady Dillos are like the old John Travolta movie- "STAYING ALIVE!!" They beat Comanche this past Saturday in a grinder downing the Lady Maidens by a score of 37-35. We didn’t shoot the ball well but one thing we did a great job of doing was defending. When you play someone for the third time they normally have a grasp of what you will do.

After having our first four matches, Llano, Liberty Hill, Jim Ned and Early, cancelled due to bad weather, the tennis team finally got some needed playing done this past week. The JV Team played in the Llano JV Tournament on Thursday, February 10. Teams at the tournament were Fredericksburg, San Antonio Highland, Burnet, Early, Liberty Hill, Llano and San Saba. Jairo Casco and Aaron Krueger brought back medals by winning Consolation in Boys Doubles.

San Saba ISD is so very excited to host the first track meet we have had in three years. Thanks to the San Saba County Economic Development Corporation for assisting the District in their efforts to refurbish the San Saba Mill Pond Track Complex. The track was renovated in May, 2010 and it is ready to go for track season.
