Tommy and Paula Singleton and Duke with Duke's Ammo & More held their Ribbon Cutting with the San Saba Chamber of Commerce on October 29, 2010. Duke's Ammo is located at 403 S. Live Oak St. Their Grand Opening, with door prizes and refreshments, will be held November 6th and 7th from 9 a.m.

The San Saba County Commissioner’s Court met on Tuesday, October 26th at 10:30 a.m. in the County Judge’s chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the court. County Commissioner Roger McGehee gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Kevin Casey, a Unifirst representative from Kerrville gave a presentation of their uniform rental services.

The San Saba Grammar School is commemorated with this year’s Historical Christmas Ornament created for the San Saba County Historical Commission. The school, which was torn down in 1961, was located on the present day practice field. This is the sixth ornament in the series highlighting San Saba County’s history.

Janiece Duggan and Michelle Murray hosted a baby shower for Gena Lazcano last Sunday at Janiece Duggan’s home. The Vaughn family spent the week-end in Albany.Jerry Duggan, Danny Duggan’s dad is in the hospital in Waco. He will be there for a week or two. Doug and Cyndi Suggs went on a cruise recently to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Tommy and Kaci Morrison went to First Monday in Canton.

Recently on our cruise we went to the evening entertainment and saw an illusionist. Some would call it a magic show. She used several different kinds of boxes and put people or objects in them, even herself, and made them disappear. Everyone was "WOWED" by her skill and ability to do this. Sometimes magic is used for entertainment.

100 Years Ago November 3, 1910 There was plenty of ice last Friday and Saturday mornings. It was the first at this early date for many years. I wish we had some rain to talk about, but it has been over a month for us. They got a pretty good rain out at Elm Grove last week. Maybe we will soon. It is to get quite a bit cooler in the next few days. Marilyn Suber wants to let her customers know that she will be having knee replacement surgery on Friday, November 19th.

The first frost came last Wednesday for some of us who live around the Bend. It wasn’t a hard frost, but did nip some of the more tender plants. Everyone will be bringing in the plants if not already done so. The trick or treaters were out and around the Bend Sunday night making the rounds to get goodies.

I guess from here on in our football season is one week long at a time. I have to say I had a heart shrinking moment when I realized how many senior boys were on the team! We have more coming up, but this years’s seniors make up more than half of the team!

Several years ago I went by our local judge’s office to visit and when I arrived the judge was in despair because the computer with all their records had crashed. I asked the judge if I could look at it so I took it apart and found the problem and got it working; somewhat.

The veterans of the American Legion will meet Thursday morning, November 11th for a Veteran's Day celebration. Members of the Wiley B. The Sheriff's Office this week had an excellent week working with teachers, staff and students all across the county. We put on multiple programs in Cherokee, San Saba and Richland Springs this week and enjoyed each minute of it. The old grammar school, a landmark for 50 years, will begin to topple soon, saddening many hearts who put time, work and money into its building. Some remember the building as the one they attended, raised money for, taught in or helped build. Several San Sabans remember well the thrill and pride San Saba had because of its new school house.

On December 6, 2010, the training necessary to obtain a private applicators license will be presented by Jamie Osbourn, Llano County Extension Agent. This training will be held at St. James Lutheran Church Schorlemmer Hall, 1401 Ford St. in Llano, and will begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration and include the noon meal.

San Saba Masonic Lodge No. 612 will hold its stated meeting on Saturday, November 6th. The Today's Girl Youth Organization will perform a community service activity benefiting the Angel Tree by collecting unwrapped toys for Christmas at the San Saba Today's Girl Competition at the San Saba Civic Center on November 20, 2010. Jacob Hibler, son of Pete and Lisa Hibler of Midland, TX. is not your average golfer. In September, Jacob became the second youngest person ever to win the Golf Channel Amateur Tour National Championship, the largest amateur tour in North America. Receipts totaled 5402 head for the week. The stocker steers were $2 to $3 higher and the stocker heifers were steady to $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady to $2 higher. Mrs. F.N. (Babe) Weaver, 93, of Baytown, Tx, formally of San Saba, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010, at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown. Babe was born December 26, 1916 to Mark D. Terry and Lennie Adams Terry in San Saba County. F.N. Weaver and Babe were united in marriage on December 3, 1936 in La Porte, Tx.

The Richland Springs 5th & 6th grade Coyotes claimed "back to back" Superbowl Championships this past Saturday in Zephyr, Texas. The Coyotes won the Six-Man Pee Wee Superbowl Championship last year in the 3rd & 4th grade division and has now claimed it in the 5th & 6th grade division!

The 7th grade Dillos played a tough game but did not come out on top. The kids played a great game. Their record now stands at 5-3. The game started off as a defensive battle with strong plays by Emilono Rocha, John Watson, Holt Oliver, Joey Salinas, Ramiro Coronado, Carter Eden and Ehren Thomas.

Basketball season is now upon us. The Lady Coyotes have scheduled their first scrimmage of the year against Panther Creek for Saturday, Nov. 6 The Jr. High Coyotes lost against Mullin last Thursday. The junior high Coyotes finished the season with 5 wins/3 losses. The junior varsity team won 64-19 over Jonesboro last Thursday.

The Cherokee Indians played a non-varsity game against the Brookesmith Mustangs last Friday night and came away with a 50-0 victory. The Indians recorded a 1-0 win by forfeit as the Mustangs did not have enough varsity players. Tucker Corsi scored 2 TDs for the Indians. Josh Brown recorded 1 TD.

The Cherokee Jr. High Indians rolled over the Lohn Eagles Jr. High team, 45-12. Ashton Pittman scored on a 22 yard run and a 39 yard pass reception from Baylor Jordan. Jordan scored on a 68 yard pass play from Victor Wisdom, an 18 yard run, a 20 yard run, and kicked 2 PATs.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met October 28, 2010 to celebrate Halloween and play golf. The October Chair, Becky Hardin, had an adorable Halloween cake and coffee that she served the girls at the RV Meeting Room before play. Several of the ladies had on their Halloween shirts and socks to begin the festive day.

San Saba Elementary is racing through the 2010-2011 school year! We just finished with Red Ribbon Week, and the students were excited by all of the fun days planned to celebrate being Drug Free. The Ozona 8th grade Lions defeated the San Saba 8th grade Dillos by a score of 28-0. The Dillos were short handed due to injury and disciplinary actions. The remaining 14 Dillos played their hearts out even though they were playing positions they had never played on short notice. Ozona was very classy in helping us with our situation.

The Junior Coyotes put up a good fight last Thursday in Mullin, only to see their last drive, with just a couple of minutes left, fall just a little short. After falling behind 32-18 in the second half, it was looking a little dismal, until a powerful run by Storm Teel for 6 points set up an onside kick attempt which was snared by Jacob Cohn.

The San Saba Armadillos survived a tough defensive football game at Lion Stadium in Ozona last Friday night. The 10-7 victory created a three-way tie for first place in District 13-2A Div 2. It also clinched a playoff spot for the Armadillos. This marks the first time since 1987-1989 that San Saba has been in playoffs in consecutive years. San Saba won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.

This past Thursday, the JV Armadillo football team hosted the Ozona Lions on our home turf at Rogan Field. The game started off well as we kicked off to the Lions and our defense held them in check right away. When our offense took the field, we drove right down and scored to take an early lead.

How about those ARMADILLOS!!! Wow, what a great ballgame the Armadillos played way out there in Ozona! Congrats to all the teams this season as the regular football season comes to a close this week against Junction. Basketball started Saturday after the group’s late night in Ozona as the girls traveled to Comanche Saturday morning for a three-way scrimmage with Comanche and Goldthwaite.

The Richland Springs Coyote flag football team won the Six-Man Pee Wee Football Associations "Superbowl Championship" this past Friday in Zephyr, Texas. The Coyotes finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record! The Coyotes tangled with the Blanket Tigers for the championship. The Coyotes won the coin toss and elected to start on offense.
