Americans know best what kind of health care coverage is right for them and their families. They should be able to work with their own trusted physicians to determine the treatments and services that will meet their needs. Unfortunately, the health reform law, which was rushed through Congress and forced on the American public, empowers the government to make decisions that should be left to doctors and patients. The health reform law undermines Americans’ control over their he ...

For most people who use tobacco – having a reason to quit tobacco isn’t as much a problem as knowing how to quit tobacco. Unfortunately, there isn’t one way that works for all tobacco users, but there are some key factors that seem to help most people. First, make the decision to quit, and list out the top five reasons you want to quit (e.g., your health, the health of a loved one, tobacco policies at work or in the community, physical appearance, other).

Dear Editor: It’s officially fall – the time of year when the weather starts to cool, leaves begin to change and, for America’s farmers, harvest is in full-swing. For the 98 percent of Americans who are not directly involved in the agriculture industry, the 24/7 life of a farmer or rancher may go unnoticed. But, if you are reading this article, thank a tree producer for the paper and a soybean producer for the ink.

A teacher asked, "What's the difference between perseverance and obsinacy?" "One's a will," said Johnny, "and the other's a won't." And that's what makes a Christian - a will, not education or emotion. A doctor might learn the techniques of surgery from books. But that won't make him a surgeon. He learns by doing. It's the same with the Christian life.

With a new school year upon us, life is busier than ever. As hectic as the days may be, I encourage parents to use healthy Texas-grown and raised food when preparing after-school snacks and meals. Although Texas schools are doing an outstanding job of improving the nutritional value of school meals, we're losing our children's health to poor habits after school when they become less active and eat higher calorie foods at home. Research shows more than 35 percent of Texas school-aged ...
