It has a way of grabbing hold and not turning loose. I am not talking about an animal. What I refer to has a way of invading the mind and lingering on forever. It is hard to dismiss some of the experiences we have in life. In the end, this will destroy marriages, families and will devour your soul.

This past couple of weeks I have been thinking about all the useful phrases I have heard people use during my years of growing up in the South. It was Aunt Sue's 99th birthday, and her 30-year-old pastor exclaimed, "Happy Birthday, Aunt Sue! I hope I can celebrate your 100th birthday." "I don't see why not," she said. Throughout history, Texans have always put their unique touch on just about everything under the big sky. The way we talk, the way we govern, and the way we cook are just a few examples. Our music, particularly country music, has been no exception. While the culture and people of the Deep South shaped what we know today as the modern Nashville sound, Texas honed its own flavor of country rooted in cowboy and folk traditions. Following the Civil War and California Gold Rush, the late ...

After forty years of wondering and grumbling the people just didn’t get it. After all the miracles in Egypt, the manna, and the quail from heaven, the people did not understand the grace of God.
