Salt, a mineral compound consisting of sodium and chloride, is one of the world’s oldest food seasonings and preservatives. Though essential for animal life in small amounts, sodium can be harmful in large quantities. The high sodium intake by most Americans is due to more meals away from home and the increased use of convenience foods like canned foods, processed meats and cheeses, and frozen meals.

For two weeks I had the privilege of going to Bible camp with over 100 children in Brady, TX. Camp is always tiring but it is a great deal of fun and learning. I am recuperating from the heat and late nights and early mornings. While at camp there were many precious memories that were made that will last forever.

We had some more rain last week but not enough to rain out the Stars and Stripes celebration again. The parade was a good one. I thought one of the cutest participants was John and Michelle Mask’s little girl on her tricycle. Her little legs were pedaling as fast as they could go.

In the big scheme of things, the entirety of San Saba County is considered to be sparsely populated. We are considered to be VERY rural along with being remote and isolated. Now, those of you who have spent any time west of here are thinking "What???" But those of you who have lived East of here, especially along the East coast, know why we have those demographic labels.
A couple of decades ago, there was a very clearly defined distinction between being urban and being rural.

President Coolidge invited some friends to dine at the White House. Worried about their manners, they decided to do everything the President did.
When the coffee was served Coolidge poured his into a saucer, and so did the guests. He added cream and sugar. They did likewise. Then Coolidge leaned over and gave his to the cat!
So many say, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

Last week the area around the Bend received five inches or more of the rain. With all the rain now comes the mosquito. The mosquitoes can be endured because the rain was so badly needed. There is always a dark side to everything . . . just like there is also a bright side to everything.
With fresh water coming into the Colorado the fishing should be good.

I was hoping that the rain would kill off some of these pesky grasshoppers, but if it did I can’t tell. A cloud of leaping bodies flies up in panic every time I drive or walk outside. It really is disgusting. I have no more tomatoes to pick; the little rotters ate them off the vine.
