2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5 "This know also that in the last days perilous times shall come. Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, disobedient to parents, blasphemers, unthankful, and unholy. Truce-breakers, false accusers, fierce, despisers of those that are good, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God: having: a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such, turn away."

The first step to an overall healthy diet is choosing healthy beverages. Americans are drinking more soft drinks than ever. Per capita soft-drink consumption has increased almost 500 percent over the past 50 years. There is enough regular soda produced to supply every American with more than 14 oz. of soda every day.

A while back, our car had some hail damage on it and, I had it repaired. The car was fading in certain places so, I had it painted as well—or most of it. Isn’t it amazing what a coat of paint will do for an older car? After it’s painted, it sparkles and shines.

We have not had any rain the past week but things are still pretty and green. They are showing signs of needed moisture though.
I spent last week with Lanell and Ken Parson at Bangs and they are really in need of rain there. The week was short and I enjoyed the visit.
The big news around our house is the arrival of another great-granddaughter.

Next Sunday will be father’s day and it is believed to have started on June 13, 1910 to honor and commemorate fathers and male parenting. Fathers can be known by other names like dad, papa, daddy or pop. I think to fully understand the role of father and the family unit we need to look in the Bible.

Last week I was telling my mom how I had been craving pickled peaches like my Granny made. My mom was telling me how they would go out and pick small peaches, blanch them and slip the skins, stick a clove into each peach, then pack them in the jars with the pickling syrup and a cinnamon stick.

There's a statue of a Grecian maiden in Italy. She has a beautiful face and a graceful figure.
The townspeople tell the story of an untidy girl who came face to face with it. She gazed upon it, and hurried home to bathe, to comb her hair and to mend her dress.
Day by day she would stand and stare, and she changed.

Everyone around the Bend is still watching the clouds and hoping for rain. Everything is really getting dry and the gardens are having to be watered to keep them going.
The Methodist fish fry held at the Campground was well attended last Friday night. The fish was excellent and the desserts some of the best around.

Summer is here and so are the grandkids. I share that special joy with all the grandmothers of the world. It’s really a mixed bag of feelings. I love spending time with my kids and seeing where they are in life. For a brief window of time, I get to live vicariously through the eyes and voice of young people.

Domestic violence isn’t something people talk about, yet all those affected need help. Folks don’t like to think of their children or grandchildren being latch-key kids, but if both parents have to work, where do the children go and who looks after them? What’s a community to do?

Howdy,
Happy Emancipation Proclamation Day. On 6-19-1865, General Gordon Granger stood on a ship at Galveston Island and read the Emancipation Proclamation. This ended slavery in Texas.
The Civil War had ended earlier, but word had not reached Texas; therefore, the fighting had continued. This is why Emancipation Proclamation Day is celebrated in Texas on Juneteenth.

The most successful parents encou ...
