LUKE 16:13 "No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and will despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." James 4:4 "Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." It is my opinion the above verses contain a very needful message for our community and the entire world.

Two recent events right here in Texas provide a stark reminder that the War on Terror has not ended. On November 5, Nidal Malik Hasan, an apparent jihadist terrorist, coldly gunned down 13 soldiers and one unborn child in a murderous rampage at Fort Hood. On September 24, another accused terrorist, Hosam Smadi, was arrested for plotting to blow up a Dallas skyscraper.

Over the last few years our portion sizes of food have gotten bigger; so too have our waistlines. Could there be a relationship between the two? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is no research that absolutely proves that increased portion sizes cause obesity. However, there are studies that show that controlling portion sizes helps to limit calorie intake.

What is your initial reaction when you have been hurt or wronged by another? Usually we want to strike back at them-to get even! Since we have been hurt we will make sure others hurt also. This is why people have trouble in marriages. It is why friendships break apart.

It's said he lives a better life an' is free, he can even go to the best University. If this is so, why does he seem so sad? Surely things can't be all that bad. Maybe it comes from fear of seeing' all he knows disappear. Now he drives a pickup an' raises cattle an' sheep, knowin' from what was to what is has been a long leap. His ancestors roamed across the plains, ridin' horses with only knees an' rawhide reins, followin' buffalo that thundered over the land; their only ene ...

During the Thanksgiving Holiday my six year old grandson and I were riding around in the pickup when he noticed a NO Trespassing sign on a fence. He asked me what does trespassing mean. I had to think about an answer and I finally said it means going somewhere you are not supposed to or do not have permission to go.

Living History The most basic definition of a quilt would probably state that it is three layers, usually a fabric front and back along with a filler of some kind, held together with either stitching or tying. Beyond that, we usually expect that at least one side of the quilt is going to have some sort of decorative element, whether it is patchwork or sewn-on shapes (appliques), or maybe even a decorative pattern in the stitches that hold the layers together (the quilting) ...

The apostle Paul exhorts Timothy, "Discipline yourself for the purpose of Godliness" (1 Timothy 4:7). Does this seem strange? It shouldn’t. The word discipline in our English Bibles is the word from which we get the words "gymnasium" and "gymnastics". It reminds us of constant practice in the gym. The gymnastics routine must be done over and over again.

Well, Thanksgiving is here and gone. I’m not sure where all the days went, but they’re gone. Now the rush for Christmas has begun. I did not join the millions who went Black Friday shopping. The whole concept doesn’t sit well with me. I can’t imagine getting up in the way dark, traveling to a store; waiting in the cold, then dashing for my preferred merchandise! I don’t mind shopping, I don’t even mind the crowds, it’s all part of the Christm ...

After the Harper game, the Lady Dillos had played six games in six days and the wear and tear from our tourney and a game with Menard was starting to show. For several weeks my wife had asked our 15 year-old daughter to clean up her bedroom and make her bed. "Yeah, yeah, I’ll get to it" was the response, but it didn’t happen. Finally she was threatened with the loss of her cell phone for a week if she didn’t attend to these agreed-upon chores.
