Americans love having options. From the food we eat to the cars we drive, we relish making our own choices based on our preferences and what is best for ourselves and our families. Health care should not be an exception. Yet the proposals put forward by the Obama administration and the Democratic Congressional leadership would create a massive government plan for health care and crowd out the choices Americans expect. A federal government takeover of our nation’s health care will limit, if n ...

Dear Editor, Landowners in San Saba County have begun to organize to fight Oncor’s plans to construct a 345KV Transmission Line thru San Saba County. This transmission line with planned towers that are 150 feet tall and 160 feet wide, are intended only to carry electrical power from West Texas Windmills to metropolitan markets such as Austin, and Dallas instead of serving our local community, and would be a blight on the wild Colorado River at its crossings, not to mention the negative impac ...

It took Noah about 120 years to build the ark. During that time he warned the people around him to turn from their wicked ways. They sneered back, “A flood? That’s ridiculous! Such a thing will never happen!” We too may wonder why the flood was so long in coming. The Bible tells us, “The patience of God was waiting in the days of Noah” (1 Peter 3:20).

“Say it ain’t so, Joe” is an oft-cited quote attributed to a young fan following several Chicago White Sox players’ admission to “rigging” the 1919 World Series. Historians generally consider it a mythical quote directed to “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, whose stock plummeted from greatness to “goatness” with revelation of the scandal. True or not, it is a reminder of baseball fans’ collective gasp of disbelief…. * * * * * Our disdain fails to rise to this level, but hordes ...
