We are finally beginning to see a few cases of the 2009 novel H1N1 influenza (“swine flu”) in San Saba County. This is not surprising as this type of influenza is widespread. The H1N1 influenza is the same type of infection as our usual, seasonal influenza that comes through our part of the world every winter – and carries the same risk of complications as seasonal influenza.

LUKE 17:26-27 "And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the days of the Son of Man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all."
Scripture teaches us that God has destroyed the world twice by water, and the above scripture, clearly shows the worldly living conditions that existed just prior to the sudden coming of the flood of Noah's time.

Sodium. It is something that our bodies need to work. However, we usually get more sodium than we need. Just exactly what is sodium? It is a mineral that helps control the amount of fluid in our body and the beating of our heart. Not getting enough sodium is usually not a problem as sodium is found in lots of foods we eat.

Death is a part of our lives. Every one of us has been touched by the death of a friend, parent, child, or other person close to us. Sometimes we are not prepared to say good-bye no matter when that time comes. It is especially hard when it is someone who had a good deal to live for, yet, was taken from this world at a young age.

It happens every year about this time. It is when the Monarch butterflies make their journey to their winter home. They are one of the larger butterflies and the ones that live east of the Rockies go to the State of Michoacán in southern Mexico.
We first notice one or two and then more and before long there are many on the flowers around the house.

I do believe it is autumn! At least it is close. The nights are
a little cooler and the days pleasurable for the kids at play. There is some confusion in the plant world. The spring wildflowers are blooming in my pasture, and the grass needs cutting. I believe I can live with that if it means rain!
I attended the city council meeting last week.

Recently I attended a School Board meeting to ratify the School budget for 2009-2010. I was shocked to see only one other citizen from the county at this meeting. The discussion of a tax increase of 12% for the school district and the 6% increase in property values proposed for the next year sent mixed feelings.

Most of us need not be reminded that September can be a fairly busy
time of the year. There are a number of activities that take a bit more of our time than usual. Some of them that readily come to mind might be school taking back up, field work getting the small grain patches cultivated and sown, football season beginning, college kids getting off to school, and bird season, to name a few.

Soon, 10th Street located in front of the San Saba Middle School main entrance will become a one-way street during a limit time during the day.
