On Saturday, May 9th The General Election for San Saba ISD, the City of San Saba,the Richland Springs ISD, and the City of Richland Springs was held.
In the San Saba ISD election: Michael Deans, Kim Kirk, and Marcie Maxcey were elected as School Board Members.
The voters in the City of San Saba elected Marvin Riggs, Shawn Oliver, and Charlie Peeler to the San Saba City Council.
Richland Springs ISD voters elected Thurman Saxton and Tanya Lusty to the School Board.

David and Shara Wright have selected a good location for their new business in San Saba. Their business, Making Education Possible, Inc., doing business as iStudySmart.com, is located next to SSISD. When they bought the business in Nashville, Tennessee, the building was furnished with office equipment and furniture which they did not need.

Mission San Saba is again making plans for its annual Extreme Makeover. It will be the 6th year for local volunteers to remodel a home for a deserving family in the local community. The address for this year's project is 403 N. 8th Street.
Organizers, Jack and Donna Blossman, are sending out the call for volunteers for the week of June 7-13.

The San Saba Garden Club Yard of the Month for May is at 103 E. Burkett. Built ten years ago by Brenda Land who has lived in San Saba all her life. She has planted Crepe Myrtles, Wisteria, Rose of Sharon, Indian Hawthorn, Abelia and more.

There are some of us that seem to spend a great portion of our time ‘on the road’ and that means that you are going to run into Travel-related emergencies.
You should use common sense during daily travel.
For example:
· Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle with personal supplies such as water and non-perishable food, and vehicle supplies such as flares, jumper cables and any needed seasonal items.

Karen and Perry Covington went to their son, Ben’s graduation from ACU last weekend.
Josh Haynes graduated last Saturday from McMurray in Abilene. Danny and Janiece Duggan attended his graduation.
Joel, Betty, Garrett, Erin, and Patrick Ratliff went to Six Flags Thursday, May 7 for Homeschool Family day. The next day they attended the Homeschool Book Fair in Arlington.

In the early hours of the morning she woke her husband from his sound sleep and quietly said, “It’s time.” Hurriedly, he jumped from the bed, dressed, and helped his wife to the car. Calmly (as calm as he could be) he drove her to the hospital. A couple of hours after arriving the baby came.

We had 1 inch of rain out at Elm Grove along with the storm that blew through last Friday night.
We were in Brady for Jaxon Tucker’s ball game. We started home and kept hearing reports of the severe storm ahead of us so we turned back to Brady and waited out at the Tuckers’ house for over an hour.

Have you ever seen family members at odds with one another? It can be heart wrenching. The divorce rate these days is a sad testimony to the fact that many family members have been so much at odds with one another that they refuse to live together any longer. We have come to call such situations incompatibility.
One way the dictionary defines incompatibility is with the word irreconcilable.

Bad Bob’s Bait store reported that the fishing has been steady, with good catches of both yellow and channel cat being caught and still catching some white bass. They are using gold fish, perch, minnows and stink bait. A twenty-four lb. yellow cat was brought in by someone from San Saba.

I hope everyone had a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. I know it was busy around here! I especially love holidays on Sunday. I get to take all my sweeties to church. So does everyone else. Kathy Brockman had her kids there, Bev Cohn had her daughter, Pam Starr was missing one I think and there were many others there to swell the number of voices raised to praise the Lord!

I remember seeing a movie about two men in love with the same girl. One was the big athletic type while the other was a little skinny guy. They were going to have a fistfight to see who got the girl.
The big fellow had his friends around him in his corner and they were already talking victory.

Thursday, May 21st, Fellowship of Christian Women will be gathering at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall in Cherokee. This is scheduled ONE WEEK EARLY to miss graduation and holiday activities.
This month’s luncheon features Spring Ladies Choice and treating ladies in their 50’s. So look for something special to prepare and share around the serving tables.

It appears that this outbreak of North American Influenza, or “swine flu” as it is generally known, may not be as widespread as once feared.
It’s important to know how to prevent yourself from catching the flu. It’s important to know what to do and when to seek care if you think that you have caught the flu.

Joyce Brooks, author of “Around the World in the Middle Seat: How I Saw the World (and Survived!) as a Group Travel Leader”, will speak at the Rylander Memorial Library on Monday, May 18th beginning at 2:00 p.m.
She will tell of her many escapades (humorous and horrific) as she led forty or more people to over 100 countries on over 200 group tours.

The San Saba County Historical Museum Foundation will hold its annual meeting at 2:00 p.m. this Sunday, May 17th at the Museum in Mill Pond Park.
After a brief business meeting, there will be a program honoring the life of San Saba native Charles T. McDowell. A new exhibit highlighting his accomplishments will be unveiled.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pharis are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Courtney Elaine Pharis to Greggory Scott Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Roberts and Mr. Jim Johnson. The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Colorado High School. She is currently in the Registered Nursing program at Covenant School of Nursing in Lubbock , TX.

The San Saba County Commissioners met on Monday, May 11th in the County Judge’s Chambers. Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order.
Ricky Lusty gave the invocation and everyone joined for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Sheriff Allen Brown gave a report on the overcrowding conditions of the jail.

Miss Corrie Schulze, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Schulze, became the bride of Mr. Shane Dyson, son of Mr. and Mrs.. Phillip Dyson, on Saturday, May second, at twilight in the historic First United Methodist Church in San Saba. Stuart Beckwith officiated the ceremony.
Arriving guests were registered at matching white tables by friends of the bride, Brandy Hyatt Brown and Paige Steenerson.

Tracy and Colleen Womack of San Saba announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Candace Brooke to Anthony James Munoz, son of Jesse and Anita Munoz of Colorado City. Candace is the granddaughter of Bill and Margie Womack of Floydada and Sue Craig and the late Bill Craig of China Spring.

Seems as if we’ve just now gotten used to writing ’09, & here one finds himself already through the 1st tri-mester of the year. I know that the “younguns” don’t really think we more mature folks know much of anything, however, if they think time is rolling by in a hurry now, just wait a few years.

Receipts totaled 4189 head for the week. The market was very active with stocker steers over 500 pounds selling $3 to $5 higher and steady on 500 pounds and less. Stocker heifers sold $1 to $2 higher. Feeder heifers sold $1 higher and feeder steers remain steady. Packer cows and bulls sold steady to $2 lower.

This year’s Llano County Beef & Range Field Day is set for Thursday, June 4, 2009, to be held at Chanas Ranch and the Llano American Legion Hall. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Llano American Legion Hall parking lot; coffee and donuts will be served at this time.
This year, the first stop will be at Chanas Ranch which is located on Highway 29 East toward Burnet.

Craigan Johnson, 80, of San Saba, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009 in San Saba. He was born July 17, 1928 in San Saba Texas, the son of Irby Marcus Johnson and Emma Sutton. On May 1, 1954 Betty Ann Ellis and Craigan Johnson were married at the Presbyterian Church in Sloan Community.

The San Saba Armadillos are going to the play-offs for the second year in a row. This was accomplished Saturday at Jim Ned where the weather/swine flu delay ended with the Dillos beating the Bangs Dragons 8-1.
This game was supposed to be played on 4 different dates and finally was played at 10:00 a.m.

The San Saba Pony League Team traveled to Burnet on Monday May 4th to play the Burnet White team. Once again the Dillos had a rough time getting started on offense. The Dillos gave up 1 run in the bottom of the 1st and were behind 1-0 after 1 inning.

The San Saba Pony League Team traveled to Mason on Friday May 8th to take on Rock Springs. The Dillos defense started out strong, not allowing any runs in the first 2 innings, and the Dillos offense also started out quick with Sean Argote scoring in the 1st and Ryan Guidroz and Kelan Verette both scoring in the 2nd.

The San Saba High School Alumni Association (SSHSAA), as part of its ongoing effort to honor former students, will present its fourth Spring Sports Alumni Award at the Spring Sports Banquet to an alumni athlete who excelled in a spring sport. The SSHSAA is pleased to give this award this year to Alicia Cummings.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met May 7, 2009 for the monthly business meeting with the following members present: Hattie Rogers, Sandee Hartley, Jo Ann Snow, Nell McHorse, Dorothy Sterner, Bobbie Churchill, Becky Hardin, Jo Anne Hardy, and Anita Miles.
The meeting was called to order by the President, Anita Miles, and she called on Hattie Rogers for prayer for the Craigan Johnson family and for our nation.

Pictured at left is Brennen McGinty, representing the Richland Springs Drama Club, shown serving as one of the callers for the Bingo Night fundraiser that was held in the RSHS Cafetorium on May 1st. Other student callers were Emily Smith, Kelyn Green, and Sara Hedley. Parents of the Drama Club students had a barbecue supper and a bingo night to help the students earn money for their educational trip to New York.

The Rotary Club of San Saba will host their 27th Annual Honor Student Banquet on Thursday, May 14 at the San Saba Civic Center. The banquet recognizes every high school student in the three county high schools that have maintained a 90 or better grade point average for this academic year.

The English II Honors class at San Saba High School completed their study of Shakespeare’s classic Julius Caesar this week.
The class, taught by Elizabeth Chambers, was required to memorize the famous speech Mark Antony gave at Caesar’s funeral. The famous lines began with “Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your ears...” As an added requirement the students wore togas or Roman attire to do their presentations.

President Darrin Barker called to order the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, May 11, 2009 in the Central Administration Office in San Saba, Texas. Barker gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to theAmerican and Texas flags.
The BCIS II Class gave a presentation of their successful project using the Smart Board.

On Saturday, May 9, 2009 San Saba ISD held its school board elections in a joint election with the City of San Saba. Thanks so much to those individuals who worked the elections for us, in early voting and on Saturday at the actual election day. What is next? Our next step is to canvas the election to verify the count, and then at the next regular meeting in June, we will swear in our new members and reorganize our board officers.

The Richland Springs High School Class of 1979 enjoyed a fun filled 30 year reunion Sunday, May 3rd. Laughter flooded the river and the food was excellent. Class members present were Steve Scoggin, Rita McGary Webb, Tami Capps Lusty, Carl Young, Richard Bode, Susie Reynolds Giles, Barry Fikes, and Trish Adams.

In a recent essay contest, for students ages 14 to 18, sponsored by the San Saba Soil and Water Conservation District #250 and LCRA, 15 participants submitted essays entitled "What Soil and Water Conservation Means to Me". First place was awarded to Kayla Ellis; second place, Natasha Hernandez; and third place, Tyler McIntosh, all of SSISD.

Fourth grade students of Richland Springs and San Saba ISD recently participated in a poster contest, "Dig It! The Secrets of Soil", sponsored by LCRA and the San Saba Soil and Water Conservation District #250. A total of 52 posters were received. Winners from RSISD were: first place, Emilee Rogers; second place, Jordan Gossett; and third place, Traven Day.
