On Thursday, April 9th at 11a.m. family, friends, students and school officials met at the Armadillo Arena to witness Calea Turner making her college choice.
Calea signed a two-year full scholarship for Basketball to Western Texas College, in Snyder, Texas. Making comments were Coach Taylor and Athletic Director Jeff Pannell.

Benjamin D. Walz, a medical student enrolled at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Ft. Worth, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, is in the process of completing 320 hours of clinical training under the guidance of a preceptor, Dr. Craig Whiting, D.O., at the Hoerster Clinic. Mr.

The San Saba County Commissioners Court met on Monday, April 13th at 1:30 p.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers.
Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order. Ricky Lusty gave the Invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Kaye Clancey, an RN with the Wesley Nurse Program, addressed the Court.

The yard of the month for April belongs to Johnnie and Louise Oswald and is located at 1207 W. Commerce. Johnnie and Louise moved to San Saba in 1952 with their three children. The Oswalds have a large yard with many ferns, purple coneflowers, purple irises that came from Johnnie's great grandmother, red amaryllis, red and pink roses, and a climbing red rose, oleanders, rosemary, begonias, and more.

On April 6-7, the Girls and Boys Tennis Teams won the 8-AA District Championship. The Armadillo Tennis Team qualified seven players for regionals and three players as alternates to regionals. Qualifying for regionals were Tayler Hibler winning 1st place in Girls Singles, Tarah Crosby and Nicole Sears won 1st place in Girls Doubles, Diego Gonzales and Chase Key won 1st place in Boys Doubles, Ariela De Giuli and Marshall McIntosh won 2nd place in Mixed Doubles.

Without proper space to introduce the subject of twins, found fighting in the womb of Rebecca, it may be impossible to keep this short enough to be a Biblical Gem. The fighting became so serious that Rebecca and her husband, Isaac, asked God's help. God came and made a prophesy that concerns all people of the world.

Let your children or grandchildren help you with cooking. There are several advantages to having them help you. It provides entertainment and is cheaper than buying them snacks. It builds their self-confidence and helps teach them responsibility. If they help cook it, they will probably eat them. Here are several quick ideas for involving your kids with cooking:
· Peel a banana, dip it in yogurt.

Several children from Cherokee Home for Children spent the holiday with family members.
Keith, Keri, Kayla and Carissa Davis spent the holiday in Edgewood, Texas with Keri’s parents.
Monica and Samuel Baisden spent the holiday with Doug and Cyndi Suggs. Jeremy and Sheila Suggs were able to close the candle shop and spend Sunday with them.
Nettie Jean Randolph had her family visiting for the holidays.
Jose and Lupe Trinidad had a house and yard full visiting for the holidays too.

A couple of weeks ago about 13 of us went fishing on the Colorado River at the Bend. What an experience! There were all kinds of fishermen (and women) there that day. There were many types of bait, rods, reels, and different kinds of fish that were caught. Some caught several fish, some caught none.

Dear Editor,
I'm writing this to everyone who knows me and all of you who think you do. My name is Angela Mason. I am 42 yrs old, I have lived in or around San Saba, Texas all of my life. I am a proud mother of 2 beautiful and wonderful children.

There are not too many spring flowers this year because it has been so dry, but there are a few and they are so beautiful. It is such a change from the winter. Seeing the beauty of the flowers and the trees as they are trying to put on leaves reminds me of the hope we have in Christ.

Rain started to fall early Sunday morning leaving about one half inch of rain. It had all but stopped raining by 8:30 a.m. It sure put a damper on some early Easter egg hunts in the morning, but that afternoon the sun came out bright and of course there was wind.

We had a lovely Easter gift in the form of a refreshing rain. We had another gift in the form of the safe return of that captain on the Alabama who was rescued from the pirates.
I think our dislike of pirates and their form of cruelty comes from our Founding Fathers.

The "Dirt Doctor," Howard Garrett, author of 14 books and columnist for The Dallas Morning News, will be speaking in Hamilton at 6 p.m. May 14 at the Hamilton Junior High Cafetorium, thanks to underwriting by Maestro-Gro, Hamilton's organic fertilizer and plant food manufacturer.
Garrett is a landscape architect by training, with extensive experience in landscape contracting, greenhouse growing, golf course planning and maintenance and organic development.

On Saturday, April 25th, 2009, there will be the Juston Sanderson Memorial Crawfish Boil. It will be held on the courthouse square from 11:00 am until all crawfish is served. The cost is $10 a flat or donations are welcome. Proceeds from this benefit will go to scholarships for local seniors.

Jeff and Robin Culp of Richland Springs and Louis and Celia Boudreaux of Richardson TX proudly welcome the arrival of a granddaughter. Elliot Robin Boudreaux was born March 30, 2009 in Dallas, TX. She weighed 7 lb.3 oz. She joins big brother and sister, Alex and Rachel. The proud parents are Louis and Jill Boudreaux of Plano, Texas.

Ladies of San Saba County are invited to attend the Fellowship of Christian Women's Luncheon on Thursday, April 23rd, in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, San Saba. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and features Spring Favorites. Ladies in their 40’s will be treated, but other ages please bring one of the dishes you enjoy preparing in the springtime.

Kim and Cheryl Clarke of Sanger, Texas, and Darrin and Kelli Barker of San Saba are pleased to announce the upcoming marriage of their children, Michelle and John Darrin. Michelle’s grandparents are Ron and RoJeane Clarke, also of Sanger, and Evelyn Ramsey of Argyle, Texas. John Darrin’s grandparents are Owen and Linda Parks, Richard and Peggy Barker, and Neal and Kay Crain, all of San Saba.
Michelle and John Darrin’s wedding is planned for Friday, June 19th, at 6:00 p.m.

The Cowboy Cemetery Association of McCullough County will hold their annual workday at the cemetery on Saturday, April 18th 2009.
The Historic Cowboy Cemetery was established in 1885 and depends on volunteers to help with the clean up of the cemetery. Members are asked to bring their own tools and to wear work clothes.

Central Texas Communications, Inc. will have FREE Computer classes in San Saba on Tuesday, April 21st. The classes will be held at the Rylander Memorial Library, 103 S. Liveoak, across the street from the Courthouse in San Saba. April 5, 2009 at the Church of the Open Door, was an amazing day. The Church was full to capacity for the dedication of one of the newest churches in San Saba.
The Sunday school hour was filled with praise and worship through music by the Baggy Bottom Boys. The Boys are Eugene Montgomery, Glenn Wyley, Jerry Robinson, Paul Bolton and Stevie D.

Easter Coloring Contest at Super S, boy's bicycle went to Risien Shahan, pictured with asst. manager, Debbie Herd. The girl's bicycle went to Shyann Martinez, with asst. manager Debbie Herd giving a helping hand. Store manager Clay Bush also wants to give thanks to all the other Kindergarten contestants.

Extension Education club members attended the District 7 TEEA Spring Conference in Brady on March 31st. The keynote speaker during the morning session was Bert Strigler.
He and other volunteers rescued the last remaining WWII building at Brady’s Curtis field, had it moved to a space behind the old red jail, restored it and turned it into a museum commemorating Curtis field and the Brady POW camp.

The residents of Eventide Nursing Home were treated with Easter treats on April 6. Fourth graders of SSISD and Mrs. Howard's music class decorated the bags with an Easter theme and the San Saba County Child Welfare Board provided the treats. Anakin Klinkovsky and Marissa Coffman helped distribute the bags to the residents along with Louise Oswald and Charlotte Spence, members of the San Saba County Child Welfare Board.

Everyone is welcome again for the Free Meal 3rd Sunday, April 19th in Richland Springs, Texas, 12:00 - 2:30 P.M., at the Richland Springs Fire Station. All desserts will be welcomed from anyone that can bring one. All food is free. Any donation is appreciated for the purchase of next months free meal.
Food, fellowship, and neighbors getting together for a free meal is being offered for the entire San Saba County.

Customers of Capital Farm Credit, the state’s largest cooperative rural lender, received patronage dividend checks totaling $29.4 million recently. The payment was a continuation of the co-op’s patronage program, which has returned more than $265 million to customers since 1997.
The $29.4 million cash patronage dividend — Capital Farm Credit’s largest cash distribution made to date — was based on the co-op’s 2008 earnings.

Slice boned, skinless breast, ½" thick, against the grain. Flour and salt, lightly. Beat eggs with water & Nutmeg. Dip breast pieces in batter and dredge through the cracker meal.

It’s a sure bet that most of us had an exceptionally good weekend with plenty of food, family & fun while observing one of our Holiest of Holidays. Not only did we take time for all the afore-mentioned activities, we were blessed with a nice half-inch rain, as well. Our community gauge on the shared fence with Tony’s “Onliwon-Pecan Place”, measured .45 inch, Daddy’s still had some water left in it from the last rain, so it really looked good, and other reports from close to town range ...

Receipts totaled 2509 head for the week. All classes of calves and yearlings sold steady with last weeks higher prices. Packer cows were in good demand on a steady market. Packer bulls remain the same as last week.

Rita Luna (Granny), 81, of Brownwood, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2009 in Brownwood. Rita was born May 22, 1927 in McGrew, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph Canchola and Mary Perez Canchola. On September 1943 Luther Medrano and Rita Canchola were married in McGrew, Nebraska. She was a life long resident of San Saba and attended the Catholic Church.

Saturday, April 18th, the Dilloettes and Cheerleaders will be hosting a hamburger sale at Super S to benefit the Spirit Project at San Saba High School. The hamburger sale will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The proceeds will be donated to the BCIS II class to help with the expense of the run through tunnel.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met April 9, 2009 for play day with the Chair for April, Jo Ann Snow, calling for a game of “Best at Something”, where you receive one point for being in the fairway, one point for getting on the green in regulation, and one point for a one putt and then a point deduction for being in a hazard, loosing your ball, or a three putt.

On Tuesday, March 7th the Lady Dillos played the Lady Dragons of Bangs. It was a rough night at the plate for the Lady Dillos who only managed 2 hits for the game. Whitney Key and Brittany Moreno came up with those hits. Bianca Dawson started on the mound for the Lady Dillos and was relieved by Tarah Crosby.

Raylee Pannell was a special guest at the April 2nd meeting of the San Saba River DRT Chapter held at the Rylander Library. She read her essay on “Jose Antonio Navarro-A True Texas Hero” to members and guests.

On Thursday, April 2nd the 7th and 8th grade boys competed in a track meet at Brady. These young men should be congratulated on the fine job. Both teams made huge improvements in time and distance from the previous meet, and they should be commended for their outstanding performance.
Every one of them competed to the best of their abilities and as coaches we were very proud of them.

The Board of Trustees of the San Saba ISD met for a Regular Meeting on Monday, April 13th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order followed by prayer. Everyone gave pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze introduced Michael Bohensky who is currently the High School Principal at Bronte, Texas.

On a super windy day in which the pole vault had to be called off, the Jr. High Lady Dillos participated in the Junior High Heart of Texas Relays in Brady on Thursday, April 2, 2009. In attendance were six of last years district and five of this years seven members.

San Saba Elementary Library will host a Book Fair during the week of April 20-24 from 8am-3:30pm daily. Our Community Event will be Tuesday April 21 from 3:30 to 6:00pm. Thursday parents & grandparents are invited to our Noon – 2 p.m. Event. The Book Fair will close Friday, at 12 Noon.

UIL academic and athletic competition in the spring of the year is packed full of events and competition that have students and staff traveling far distances. San Saba ISD is in its first year of UIL re-alignment and in a new competitive UIL district. With realignment comes both good and not so good things.

It’s not always easy to get through to adolescents. Parents need all the help they can get. NIAAA’s Web site for middle schoolers, thecoolspot.gov, is an interactive tool designed specifically for kids. The site helps parents reinforce many of the ideas presented here, including:
· A “reality check” on the drinking behavior of their peers (not everyone drinks).

Anica Cisneroz, a 2006 San Saba High School graduate, has been selected to the Who’s Who Among students in American Universities program. To be chosen a student must first be nominated by University faculty and by a registered student organization. The nominations are then reviewed by a committee. The committee then selects those students who have excelled in their achievements in and out of the classroom.
