Have you noticed the dormant vegetation is coming back to life? The trees, flowers, etc. that are seasonal have begun to bloom. In the back of our property there is a red bud tree that always has beautiful blooms on it when the weather warms up. Soon the blooms will give way to leaves that will be full and green.

A "Million Dollar Rain" on Friday morning March 23 gave county new life. Accompanying the rain was pea and marble-sized hail which was reported in the Pecan Grove and Locker Communities. Because the rain fell in a matter of minutes, tanks in the county are full, some for the first time in several years.

Dear Editor,
As an American I am grateful for the rights we have.
As the mother of a soldier again in Iraq, I know the meaning of worry.
As the daughter of a racist father I learned how to forgive and not be as judgemental.
As a wife I have experienced what racism is first hand.

About a hundred years ago there was a candlestick maker who often stopped at a market and bought fish for his evening meal.
It was wrapped in ordinary paper which became soggy, and the passengers on the street car always complained about the odor.
One morning he dipped the paper in molten wax.

“Hey, Dr. Derrick,” said a young woman, “I saw your picture in the paper. I didn’t know you were into astrology.”
Trying not to grimace, I replied, “I’m into astronomy,” to which she quickly corrected herself, “Sorry, astronomy.”
When confused with astrologers, most astronomers bristle as if they’ve been insulted, even if unintentionally.

The salvation planned by God and worked out by Jesus Christ is not only negative. It is positive. It is not only salvation from sin. It is salvation to eternal life. To be rescued from the consequences of sin is not enough. Such rescue simply brings us back to ground zero.

People from around the Bend woke up Sunday morning to a light frost and some light ice on the bird baths. Some vegetables were nipped and some made it through without any problems, not too sure about the fruit.
Mebbie Eckhoff reported that they had ice on the windshields of their pickups and Leon thought that the ice wasn’t that bad.
Lola Morris had beans up and the frost nipped some of them, but still had some that was okay.
Mebbie also had a report about her grandson's gymnastic accompli ...

Another crazy spring week safely under our belt! The Saturday frost/freeze warning just about sent Russell through the Richter scale. He can’t figure out why these weather guys can’t get the weather straight. I ran out and covered plants with his help, but I was just too sure we were going to lose my baby garden and fruit!

We were busy feeding the sheep and I did not notice when he walked up. He stayed with the other baby lambs while their mothers were eating. Maybe it was the pure snow white color or maybe his size because he was a couple of inches taller than the other lambs.

THE ANSWER:
Be sure to have Smoke Detectors: Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper installation, maintenance and testing. In general, you need to have at least 1 smoke detector for each level of your home [and that includes a basement] and outside each sleeping area.

Each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other thunderstorm related hazard. Why? The main reason is people underestimate the force and power of water. Many of the deaths occur in automobiles as they are swept downstream. Of these drownings, many are preventable, but too many people continue to drive around the barriers that warn you the road is flooded.
Whether you are driving or walking, if you come to a flooded road, Turn Around Don’t Drown.

It seems like more and more cases are reported every day of contamination to our food supply. The recent case of Salmonella found in peanut butter products is just one example of this potentially dangerous problem. While the media coverage about these outbreaks typically centers on the human food supply, there is also a danger to the food we feed our pets as well.
