The San Saba County Volunteer EMS is in desperate need of EMT'S (Emergency Medical Technicians) for all hours, day and night. In 2008, the San Saba County Volunteer EMS responded to 740 calls. Based on $560.00 per call, it would have cost the county $414,400.00. When the volunteers are available, they care.

There is no rain to report. It has been two months since we had our last .6 of an inch. Not since August and September of 1983 have we had two months without any rainfall.
There were 12 people enjoying the visiting at the community meeting last Saturday night. The officers were all re-elected.

2 PETER 2:20-21 "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they have known it, to turn from the Holy commandment delivered unto them."
It would be very easy for a person to read this scripture spoken by Peter, and fail to see it as t ...

Last week we discussed how to PLAN for what you will do in an emergency. This week we’ll talk about how to STAY INFORMED and know about types of emergencies.
Some of the things you can do to prepare for the unexpected, such as assembling an emergency supply kit for yourself, your family and your pets, is the same regardless of the type of emergency.

Paul had some struggles. I’m not sure what all of them were but he does list some of these in 2 Corinthians 11. Some were of a physical nature where he had been beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, and treated badly. Others were more trying from an emotional point of view. Listen as he says that on top of all his external problems, “there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches.” 2 Cor.

Reading Recommendations: Doris Day, The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door, David Kaufman.
Doris Day is the rare American icon who millions of people feel they know intimately. For nearly six decades, Day's manufactured persona has remained intact, the woman born Doris Kappelhoff has always been seen as "American as apple pie"

One certain constant on our weather situation the past few months is the factor of little change, at least in respect to any moisture. Recent travels around the County roads have added evidence to this factor with all the dry, dusty roads, grain fields struggling to stay a light shade of green, and many tanks, water holes & creeks that are either very low or already dry. I’m absolutely positive that it will rain again, but the big question is “when”!

Dear Editor,
I remember back years ago as a kid hoeing peanuts on my parent's farm, a job that I truly detested but learned a few lessons from. One in particular was that every now and then even hoeing peanuts isn't fair!
There always seemed to be a particular row that had become thoroughly infested with weeds, grass and an occasional snake or two.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I'm truly amazed that many would choose a life of misery and unhappiness over a life of joy and peace.

The Bend Community meeting went off as scheduled Saturday night. The Riverbend performers showed up as scheduled with Kay Lynn Scott, but was a little late getting their act together as Mark Scott had trouble finding the Bend Community Building in the big city of Bend. It gave everyone a good laugh at the expense of him.

I hope everyone has had a good week so far. My work week was shortened due to the Youth Fair. Mind you, just because the kids get out after lunch doesn’t mean teachers do!
We had a short training session on our new AR system before we could head back to our rooms to clean up.

It may not be a happy transition and in some countries it even breaks out in war. If one group does not like the ruler that has won the election they will try to run him off or overthrow him. For instance, today in Zimbabwe there are two men who claim they both won the election.

I am writing this on the morning of my 20th day in office and I am sitting here thinking, "man what a ride". The first 20 days have been fast and furious, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I have three departments, all moving forward and working with the new changes to make things better both for the Sheriff's Office and you as well.

On Tuesday, January 13th, the San Saba JV Lady Dillos took on Comanche. We ended up falling short to Comanche 23-11. Comanche has some big girls and quickness that we could not stop. We were able to hang with them in the 1st quarter, but after that we could never get back in our groove.

Consistency in student discipline is a top priority throughout the District. The spring of the year brings with it different challenges regarding student discipline. Students are looking forward to summer and the weather is warming up so challenges with hair code and dress code are certain to erupt.
It is a good time to revisit expectations in the hair code and dress code in order to keep discipline challenges to a minimum.

By Missy King, Prevention Specialist Central Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse
How can you tell if your child is using drugs or alcohol? It is difficult because changes in mood or attitudes, unusual temper outbursts, changes in sleeping habits and changes in hobbies or other interests are common in teens. What should you look for?
You can also look for signs of depression, withdrawal, carelessness with grooming or hostility.
