The San Saba County Pecan Show exhibited forty six entries this year. Considering the conditions in our area this appears to be a very good show. Many shows in the State were cancelled or only had a handful of entries. Quality was excellent for all the forty six entries. A special thanks to Jackie Brister, Olan Tisdale, and Dwight Harkey for helping shell the entries.

MATTHEW 23:39 "For I say unto you, ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, blessed is He than cometh in the name of the Lord." Can you meditate upon the above scripture and imagine how it might influence people in today's world? Most will realize we are living in a very sinful and unsafe world, and some will realize the greatest world need is for peace that can only be possessed by a close relationship with Jesus Christ.

The common cold is a viral infection of your nose and throat. A cold is usually harmless though it may not feel that way. Although more than 200 viruses can cause a common cold, the rhinovirus is the most common culprit and it is highly contagious. Cold viruses are almost always present in the environment.

We are just getting drier all of the time. There has been no rain at all in December, so far. Everyone is getting ready for Christmas. The Elm Grove Christmas party was held last Saturday night. We were short on kids for the program this year due to so many family get-togethers on the same night. Gloria Weatherman, assisted by Amy Tucker, presented a cute program. The kids always do a good job, considering they have no rehearsals.

Reading Recommendations: Santiago's Children, What I Learned about Life in an Orphanage in Chili, Steve Reifenberg-Foreward by Paul Farmer. Unclear about his future career path, Steve Reifenberg found himself in the early 1980's working at a poor orphanage in a poor neighborhood in Santiago, Chili, where a determined single woman was trying to create a stable home for a dozen or so children who had been abandoned or abused.

One could surmise that the most beneficial aspect of our recent weather is that all the tanks must be full that are next to the windmills. That one is for sure and another is that the recent cold mornings, aided by the wind, has just about brought most of the Pecan & Elm leaves on down.

Dear Editor, I read with great interest the "LETTER TO THE EDITOR" by Stan Weik in the October 30 issue of the News & Star. It was quite interesting since it seemed to be laced with big city greed rather than small town practicality. He says that the city has sold water to NSSWSC for 18 years without a price increase.

A distressed Joseph thought about severing the relationship. “But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit"

Maybe Santa Claus will read the Bend News and bring rain for everyone around this area, as this is the number one wish for Christmas this year. If he is making his list and checks it twice, he will know that a big rain would really be nice. We can be thankful that we are in Texas enjoying the up and down temperature, and not like some folks up north who are without electricity and having snow that is up to their knees. Congratulations go out to Dennis and Glenda Scroggins on the birth of a ne ...

I first noticed her and the young man sitting on some concrete steps inside the penitentiary. They were sitting close together and holding hands and the old woman seemed very distraught. Her hands were calloused and wrinkled because of many hard years, but her Bible was nearby. Her clothes were old and worn and a faded old blue scarf covered her head. The prison system allows the families to come in and be with their loved ones for a few hours one day a year.

I wish each and every one of you a wonderful Christmas. This is a magical time of the year. Mind you, I realize that this is also a time for missing loved ones, but it is such a wonderful season. Anything that has such a rich history and evokes intensely strong feeling always has to have a flip side.
