Bonnie Richardson doesn’t understand all the attention.
People she doesn’t know have congratulated her. National media organizations, including ESPN and Sports Illustrated, have called to interview her. Track and field coaches have written letters, hoping to persuade to sign a college scholarship.
“I guess it’s a big deal. That’s what people keep telling me,” Richardson said two weeks after she accomplished something no other Texas high school female track and field athlete has.

This past weekend, the San Saba High School Armadillos defeated the Dimmitt Wildcats in Snyder Texas. Friday’s game was played at Western Texas College and ended up 3-1 in favor of the Dillos. All the Dillos played well, with Blake Lewis throwing a great game with 12 strikeouts.
On Saturday, at Moffett field, the Wildcats won the first game 3-2 in 8 innings, Robert Pulatie threw very well, but we just weren’t able to get it done.

The Simpsons of San Saba were recognized as Outstanding Wildlife conservationists at the Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (ATSWCD) Area 2 Annual Awards Banquet held in Wall, Texas on May 6th. Area 2 covers a vast region of Texas and includes 51 counties. The Simpsons were awarded 1st Place among nominees throughout this region for soil, water and wildlife conservation efforts on their 1507 acre ranch.

The following young ladies of San Saba attended the commencement exercises of the W.T.N.&B. College at Cherokee last week: Misses Gertrude and Lela Hill, Essie and Bertha Hudson, Lucy Walker, Mattie Armour Rector, Carrie and Mary Sanderson.
Andy Weston from the Colorado River just below Ratler was in San Saba Monday and reported the river at 34 feet high and still rising at his house Monday morning.

Margaret went to paint sunsets in heaven. She slipped away on May 21, 2008, with her loving family by her side at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital.
"Margie" was born December 12, 1913 and was reared in San Saba, Texas but later moved to Modesto, California area in 1949. She is survived by her loving son, H.

Doug Lackey, 79, of San Saba, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008 at his residence in San Saba. He was born April 12, 1929, in San Saba County, the son of William R. Lackey and Alena Kathryn Ratliff. Doug spent many days fishing and enjoying life on the river. He donated many pounds of fish to the EMS and gave a lot to friends.
