Richard Randolph of Cherokee and Kevin, Mary and Jaze Randolph of Commanche attended the San Antonio Rodeo last weekend. They got to hear Alan Jackson. We are getting a very dry start for this new year. We only had .3 inch of rain in December, .5 in January with lots of windy days to take away the small amount of moisture. Saturday was Ground Hog Day and the old saying is that if he saw his shadow, we would have six more weeks of winter weather.

According to that lil’ ol’ rolly-poly groundhog up in Pennsylvania, we should be expecting to have six more weeks of winter-type weather. Not knowing whether the weather will be good or bad is probably one of the greatest enigmas of life, but we see a lot of folks making a living trying to guess what it’s going to do.

Receipts totaled 3639 head for the week. Feeder steers sold $3 to $5 higher and feeder heifers sold $2 higher. Stocker steers were $2 higher while stocker heifers remained steady. Packer cows sold $3 higher and packer bulls sold $4 higher. The market was active on all classes of cattle. - Rep.

Can you believe this weather? We jump from freezing to 70’s. Everyone was talking about how bad the wind had been last week and comparing it to the sand storms that go on in West Texas, but thank goodness the wind had slowed down by the weekend. The wind kept the women’s hair flying and men pulling their hats down.

I have run into them in most of the foreign countries that I have been in and they follow you down the street asking for money. They will hold out their hand and say, “Give me money!” I have encountered some that were very polite and humble but others that were very rude, demanding and insulting.

It’s been a long week! I am recovering from several sicknesses that have befallen my system. I finally gave in and went for a shot and drugs, but I fought the good fight for several days! I’m not much on drugs, but there comes a time when you need a little help to get better.

A special meeting of the San Saba County Commissioners' Court was held on January 28th. Judge Byron Theodosis, County Clerk Kim Wells, and Commissioners Otis Judkins, Ricky Lusty, and Roger McGehee were present. Kenley Kroll was absent due to a medical appointment. The San Saba County Property Owners' Association monthly meeting was held Tuesday, January 29th at the Seniors' Center. After a short business meeting, candidates for city, county, and state offices were introduced by POA President Harold Yates, and given five minutes each to address the crowd of almost 70 attendees, regarding their respective positions for office. Eight candidates or their representatives were present to address the crowd.

San Saba County EMS has been serving the people of San Saba County for over 22 years. We are a group of trained volunteers, certified by the State of Texas. EMS is available to the people of this county 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Cleo Cupp Fitzgerald, 82, a resident of Richland Springs, Texas, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008 in Richland Springs. She was born March 27, 1925 in Sadler, Tx. the daughter of Irison Comie Kirk and Nora Kirk. In 1942, Cleo Kirk and Leeman Reasoner were married in Floyd County, TX.

Dorothy Patton, 76, of Port Neches, Texas, formally of San Saba, Texas passed away Thursday, January 31, 2008 in Port Neches. She was born October 20, 1931, in Post, Texas, the daughter of James Madison Massingill and Velva Marie Huffman Massingill. On December 10, 1956, Victor Allen Patton and Dorothy Massingill were married in Weatherford, Texas, where Dorothy worked as a homemaker.

The San Saba Lady Dillos defeated Coleman by a score of 73-29. We had a big night hitting 15 three pointers in this game. We were up 46-5 at halftime and never looked back. Calea Turner lead us in scoring with 20 while Tarah Crosby chipped in 15 and Shelby Hardy added 11.

Last Friday morning, the University Interscholastic League announced the new district alignments for all classifications of high schools in Texas. San Saba was moved from District 6-2A to District 8-2A. Parents and coaches welcomed the new district because gone are the long road trips to Ballinger, Wall, Grape Creek and Tuscola.

The boys' and girls' Powerlifting teams travelled to DeLeon, Texas, on January 26, 2008. The kids have been working hard for the last month getting ready for this meet, and they did a great job! David Smith placed 1st in his division. Bobby Pairett placed 4th in the highly competitive 198 lbs.

In today’s world advancements in technology, education, and in all industries are evident. With advancement comes new words to our vocabulary. How many of us 10 years ago knew, much less understood what a web site was or what it would do for us. My point being is that the terms we use are changing, and in education we use terms that are familiar to the educational environment, but not necessarily to the parents and the community.
