The San Saba Commissioners' Court was surprised to learn that one of their members was planning to resign after serving 14 years, 11 months on the Court. Commissioner Wayland Perry was elected in January of 1993 and has served his constituents well. He has shown dedicated service to his faith, family, community, county, friends, and all of those who cross his path.

The San Saba Garden Club Tour of Homes will be held Sunday afternoon, December 9th, from 1-5 p.m. The cost of the tour is $10 per person and the tickets may be purchased the day of the tour at the San Saba Garden Club in Mill Pond Park. The homes and businesses included in this year’s tour include: George Mack and Marianne Taff’s home, 308 W.

Sometime between Wednesday, November 21st, and Sunday, November 25th, a person or persons broke into the coaches' office located at Rogan Field, destroying both school and personal property valued in excess of $10,000.00. The San Saba Police Department, San Saba Independent School District, and the County Attorney's Office are asking for community assistance in identifying the perpetrator(s).

Seems more like a month since last Monday other than just 1 week. Somewhat short of amazing at how time seems to fly with advancing age & then a lot of stuff happens all at the same time & the ol’ clock surely does drag along. Thanksgiving weekends are known for being rather extended, but I think this one will be more memorable for quite a number of reasons.

In 1999, the Food and Drug Administration approved a new health claim for soy protein, stating “Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grams of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease.” All soy products containing 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving that are low in fat, cholesterol and sodium may use this health claim. The Christmas lights are beautiful this year in downtown Cherokee, thanks to all of the volunteers. Tommy Morrison and Danny Duggan spent many hours last week hanging the lights. L. D., Bob and crew did a great job placing the Christmas trees . The first week of deer season, Chip Krieger, one of Lisa Sloan’s partners in the Llano County Sheriff’s Department, came to Cherokee for his first Texas deer hunt.

The best news from up in our corner of the county is the 2.3 inches of rain which we received. The cold temperatures were not as welcomed, however it is suppose to be warmer this week. There was no doubt about whether or not we had frost this Monday morning; everything was covered in white.

The San Saba County Commissioners' Court held a special meeting on Monday, November 26th. Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order and asked Commissioner Roger McGehee to offer the invocation and lead the pledges of allegiance. This was Commissioner Wayland Perry's last meeting before his resignation became effective on November 30th.

The long awaited rain did come at last. Over an inch was received at and around the Bend. There was no snow but a little bit of sleet Friday night, not enough to hardly notice. The moisture is certainly welcome. The Price family had the family of Jim, Patty and Thomas Caughman from Houston over the Thanksgiving holidays.

Someone pulled the plug on the heat! Thanksgiving came with a whole bunch of cold! I think, just last week, I was commenting on the coolness needed to make watching football fun; I take it back. This is just a little too cold for fun! Thanksgiving was wonderful; we are so blessed in this country.

Lois Oliver Peterson, 92, a resident of Roseville, California for the past year, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007 in Roseville. She was born December 18, 1914, in Knowles, New Mexico, the daughter of Andrew Todd and Addie Mobley Todd. In June 1937, Lois Todd and James Floyd Oliver were married in Brownwood, Texas.

The Lady Dillos traveled to Jacketland last Tuesday before the Thanksgiving break and were handed a 48-39 loss by the state ranked Llano LadyJackets. This was a much anticipated matchup due to the fact that we upset them last year and that didn’t set well with our neighbors to the south.

The Richland Springs Coyotes continue to march through the 2007 playoffs after defeating the May Tigers in an old west shootout by a score of 93-43. The Coyotes ended the Tigers hopes for the third straight year. The Coyotes improved their record 11-0 on the season. The Coyote offensive was in high gear this past Friday night and posted a season high - 93 points - in just two and half quarters!
