Last year’s Texas deer hunting season was considered text book by state wildlife biologists. This season, hunters may have to throw out the book.
Indicators leading into the Nov. 3 season opener point to potentially great hunting across much of the state, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists. But, as they say in advertising disclaimers, Individual results may vary.

A special meeting of the San Saba Commissioners' Court was held on October 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in Judge Byron Theodosis' Chambers.
Commissioners Otis Judkins and Ricky Lusty as well as County Clerk, Kim Wells, were present. Also present were: Treasurer Gayla Hawkins, Attorney David Williams, Bailiff Mike Edgmon, Dora Miller and Cathi Miles.

The San Saba Garden Club’s “Yard of the Month” for October is at 2305 W. Commerce St. and is the home of Mabel Ledbetter. Her friend, Mr. John Earl, has helped Mabel carry out her ideas for the plantings. The circular drive is the entrance to her business, “Mabel’s Happy Curls.” Her customers come around to the back patio filled with mums, hanging baskets, and several feeders.

The advertising is all over TV and radio. Most women’s magazines have center spread ads. It’s even being pushed through direct mail literature. So, is this new product, alli, the wonder weight loss drug we’ve all waited for? While it might not be a miracle, this drug has been shown to be effective in weight loss, BUT, you must carefully follow the directions for use or you could have a REALLY challenging day!

The Cherokee Fall Festival was a huge sucess. The supper was delicious and there was lots of booths. A big “Thank You” to everyone that helped!
Charlie Gray of Ester, Alaska spent time recently in Llano, Cherokee and San Saba visiting family and friends. Ester is close to Fairbanks.

We registered .3 of an inch of rain last Monday. The days have been windy and the nights are pretty cool with a touch of frost and some ice on windshields, typical Fall weather.
I had a bunch of Trick or Treaters last Saturday night. The kids were cute in their costumes and some of the adults got into the swing of things and dressed up.

The Economic Development Corporation of San Saba, Texas convened into an open meeting on Thursday, October 18th, 2007 at 1:30 p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 303 S. Clear Street.

There have been lots of reports of pecans that are falling to the ground, but the meat is all swiveled up inside and just not worth the time to pick them up.

Did you miss the Fall Fair/Chili/Bingo night at the school? Chances are you missed a super fun night! I think the town was empty, because everyone who was anyone was at the school. Many classes had fund raisers. Mrs. Brockman’s class held a cake walk, Mrs. Harris had the “fishing” booth, and the junior high group had a Pie in the Face booth.

Billie Louise McGregor Adams, 87, of Richland Springs, passed away on October 25, 2007 at her residence.
Billie Louise McGregor Adams was born November 4, 1919 in Algerita, TX to Forrest & Mary McGregor. She graduated from Richland Springs High School in1936 and Texas State Womens College (now TWU) in 1940.

Brenda Kay Ashing, wife, mother, daughter, sister but mostly friend, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2007 in Houston, Texas at the age of 50.
She was born on January 26, 1957 to Joyce (Smith) and Wayne Bush in Brownwood, Texas. Mrs. Ashing had resided in Llano since 1983 coming from Richland Springs.

Harold L. Robertson, 74, of San Saba, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. He was born March 07, 1933 in Half-Moon Arkansas, the son of George H. Robertson and Nona Rudell Vernon Robertson. On May 28, 1964, Harold Robertson and Dora Alba were united in marriage in Logan, Utah.

In the first quarter, Calvert scored the first 3 touchdowns on running plays of 45 yards, 13 yards, and 3 yards. Then they scored the 4th touchdown of the quarter on a 43-yard pass play. Calvert's Trojans kicked 2 extra points: 1 extra point failed and 1 was blocked by Duncan Roberts.

The Richland Springs Coyotes improved to (2-0) in District 15 by beating the Brookesmith Mustangs by a score of 62 - 0. This game was over from the get go.
The Mustangs used ball control as much as possible to kill the clock. The Mustangs ran dives and sweeps all night long and did not make any progress against that great Coyote defense.

The Bangs Dragons scored 60 points against the San Saba Armadillos last Friday night at Rogan Field. It was the most points allowed by San Saba since a 61-24 defeat by Hico in 2002 at Rogan Field. Bangs scored 7 touchdowns on offense amassing 340 yards rushing and 102 yards through the air.
