San Saba County is home of Boy Scout Troop 55 and Cub Scout Pack 55, both of which were represented at the recent Heritage Days Celebration in the Mill Pond Park. Cub Scouts, comprised of younger, elementary aged boys, manned a booth selling popcorn and kites. The Boy Scout Troop, comprised of middle school through high school aged boys, set up a replica of a traditional scout campsite complete with tent, chuck box, and campfire area.

The Howard Payne University Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2007 inductees on Wednesday. L.J. Clayton, David Gilger, and Dale Fisher will be inducted in a ceremony to be held during Homecoming weekend on October 27, 2007 in the Mabee University Center at 7:30 P.M.

With hunting season around the corner, many hunters will soon find their freezers packed with venison. The Hunters for the Hungry program offers a convenient way to donate extra venison to help feed people in need. Interested hunters can take legally harvested deer to a participating meat processor, who will process and package the meat for a nominal fee to help cover basic costs.

The Cherokee Fall Festival will be held Saturday night. Supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. It will be homemade chili, stew and desserts. The carnival will be from 6:00 to 7:15. Costume judging will be at 7:00 p.m. Please try to attend.
Maybelle and Gary Ray from Cherokee and Joyce Capps from Lampasas attended the McCoy reunion at Lake Victor last Saturday.

Green Products Showroom will have a Grand Opening in Blanco
on Saturday, November 3rd, Green Home Outfitters, which features healthier, safer, environmentally friendly home improvement products, celebrates their grand opening and ribbon cutting at their showroom in Blanco. Many beautiful quilts were displayed at the Heritage Day Quilt Show, which was sponsored by the San Saba County Property Owners Association (POA). The quilts were of unusual quality in design, color arrangement, and stitching.
The quilt show was a non-juried show with results determined by "viewers' choice." Awards were as follows:

The Wallace Creek EE Club met on October 18th at the clubhouse. The meeting was opened by answering the roll call question of "If you were going to a Halloween party what costume would you wear?" There were various and interesting responses.
Club minutes were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given.
