The Commissioners' Court of San Saba County held its regular monthly meeting on October 9th at 9 a.m. in Judge Byron Theodosis' Chambers. Commissioners Otis Judkins, Roger McGehee, Wayland Perry, and Rickey Lusty along with County Clerk Kim Wells, Treasurer Gayla Hawkins, Attorney David Williams, Justice of the Peace Les Dawson, Administrative Assistant Cathi Miles, Bailiff Mike Edgmon and Coordinators Marsha Hardy and Dora Miller were present.

The City Council of the City of San Saba held its regular monthly meeting on September 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the City Hall. Alderman Marvin Riggs, Shawn Oliver, Martha Leigh Whitten, Ken Jordan and Oleta Behrens were present. In the absence of Mayor David Parker, Marvin Riggs called the meeting to order.

It is a coincidence, really, that the opponent on October 12 was Veribest, because Richland Springs is indeed the “very best” six-man football team: not simply in the state, but, according to those who know, the nation, too.
It is a most pleasant, 17-mile drive down US 190 West from San Saba to reach this community of 350.

The veterans of the Wiley B. Murray Post will be active next week asking the community to assist with a canned food drive. Items collected are to be donated to the 57 units of the Fisher House in San Antonio, near Brooke Army Medical Center. Supplies needed by families of those wounded veterans are: any canned goods, dry cereals, any packaged, toilet supplies, laundry detergent and cleaning products.

The San Saba County Health Fair will be held on Tuesday, November 6th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Civic Center. It is free to the public.
This annual event is sponsored by Brownwood Regional Medical Center, Llano Memorial Health Care System, and the Wellness Task Force of the Texas Cooperative Extension Service.
Approximately 50 exhibitors will be present at the event.

The Heritage Day Canning Contest was a great success. The judges had a very difficult time judging the talents of the San Saba County ladies due to the excellent quality of each entry.

The San Saba County Ministerial Alliance will hold a chili and stew supper on Friday, October 26th behind the First Methodist Church from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., before the ball game.
Each meal will include drink and dessert. There will be no set cost but donations will be accepted.
Funds will be used to help those in need and emergency situations in the community.

Surrounded by his family, Stephen Layne Brunson of Ballinger, Texas, passed away at home on Thursday, October 11, 2007. He was born in Ballinger on October 25, 1946 to Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Brunson.
Brunson graduated from Ballinger High School after surviving a near fatal accident that challenged his body but shaped his philosophy of life’s precious moments and his lifelong Christian faith.

Daisy Jean Martin, 69, of San Saba passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007 in San Saba, Texas. She was born January 7, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa to Clarence Martin and Ruby Hern Martin. She attended the Assembly of God Church.
Daisy is survived by two sons, Carl Thirtyacre Jr. and Jerry Wayne Thirtyacre; one daughter Tina Marie Thirtyacre; one brother Kenneth Eikam of San Saba, Texas and two very special friends Billie Cason and Barbara Porter of San Saba, Texas.

The San Saba Armadillos lost a close game to the Jim Ned Indians 20-14 last Friday night in San Saba. The Indians kept the ball on the ground the second half keeping the Armadillo offense off the field. Jim Ned had 213 yards rushing in the game, 126 of them in the second half.

The No. 1 Richland Springs Coyotes (6-0) on the season and (1-0) in district beat up on the Veribest Falcons (4-2) by a score of 84-0 this past Friday night. The Coyotes was unstoppable once again scoring on every possession and their longest drive of the night only took three plays.

Two years in a row, the Indians have had the better team in their game against Jonesboro. Two years in a row, victory has slipped away from the Indians. Last year, it was the result of some bad calls from the officials. This year it was the result of Indian miscues and injuries.

On a fairly hot day, for the first time, San Saba fielded a team which was in Varsity Girls. Result being a first place finish with three of teams beaten being the district teams of Early, Bangs and Coleman. San Saba took ten runners to Goldthwaite with nine bringing back medals and the other being a part of the Varsity Girls victorious team.
