A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held Monday, March 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order, established a quorum with everyone present, welcomed everyone to the meeting followed by the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

It started out on a beautiful morning at the Mill Pond Park pavilion. Registration began at 8 am and all participants were given T-shirts. Over 200 participants signed up to walk and run. Sam Crosby led them in prayer and addressed the crowd with very emotional and touching words, reminding the participants the reason for being there was to raise funds and awareness to fight cancer.

The San Saba FCCLA competed at Regional Competition March 1 - 3 in Abilene, Texas.This year, Mrs. Rogers took 5 teams to competition. The kids have been working on their projects since September and were ready and excited to go.Despite months of work and preparation - you never know what to expect in the end.

The Dilloettes competed at the Danceline North Texas Regional Contest this past weekend in Lampasas. They received a Division 1 First Place Trophy for their team kick routine.We also had 3 members compete in a Technique Challenge. Erin Edmondson placed in the top 5 for Leaps, Kayla Kutin placed in the top 5 for Kicks, and Valarie Salinas placed 2nd in the Toe Touch Challenge.

Approximately 100 people attended the Community Celebration honoring the Richland Springs Coyotes 5th State Championship at the Stagecoach Restaurant at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 11th. RSISD Superintendent, Don Fowler, opened the celebration with comments of the accomplishments of the football team. Mayor Pro-tem, Frank Pierce read a Proclamation from the City of Richland Springs, listing the Coyotes accomplishments and proclaiming the month of January, 2012 as Richland Springs Coyote month.

On November 5, 2011 in San Saba, TX, at Millican Pecan Co.’s factory, the annual Kids in the Kitchen event took place. On Monday, December 12th at 2 p.m., the San Saba Elementary students saw a 30-minute, action-packed performance that taught them how to prevent the Evil Trash villains from taking over Texas roadways. The Don’t Mess with Texas Litter Force taught the students about litter prevention with the help of the human-size Litter Force mascots, Hawk, Ultra, Bolt and K-900.

The San Saba Garden Club collected 10 different arrangements from the two San Saba High School Floral Design classes taught by Shawna Seabourn this semester. The arrangements were judged on use of natural materials used in a decorative way. The arrangements were displayed at the Christmas Tour of Homes on December 11th and a silent auction there raised $360 for the Garden Club and the Ag classes.

The 56th annual San Saba County Extension Education council’s Pecan Food Show was held December 2nd at the Court House. Eight judges from neighboring counties chose Jackie Doner’s Pecan Brittle as the Club division Grand Champion. It also won in the San Saba Pecan Jam Candy’s Challenge back in October.

We were blessed this past week with 20 new residents from our SISTER home in Rising Star whose nursing home caught on fire over the weekend.They all arrived SAFE and SOUND, and although it was a traumatic situation and sudden transition, with all of our Christmas events, they were able to settle right in during an exciting time!Tuesday was our Employee Party, where everyone enjoyed a SCRUMPTIOUS meal at Bar D Brew house.We awarded many door prizes, played games, revealed Secret Santas, excha ...

Coming soon to a neighborhood near you…the 2011 edition of the ever-popular San Saba Garden Club Christmas Tour of Homes! Scheduled for Sunday, December 11th, from 3 – 7 pm, the walking tour will include seven decorated homes at the west end of Commerce Street in San Saba. The street will be blocked from automobile traffic to give the tourists safety as they walk up and down the street, enjoying the holiday spirit of those who live here.
