On Tuesday, September 11th, from 5:30 to 6:45 approximately 200 people gathered at the Mill Pond Park Pavilion to “Remember - Remind - Resolve.” This event was sponsored by the San Saba County Chamber of Commerce with people from 14 organizations, businesses, and individuals participating in the program. The San Saba 4-H Awards Banquet was held September 11, 6 p.m. at the Civic Center. The banquet began with Mekalia Castro leading the 100 people attending in the Pledge of Allegiance. Kendall Johnson led the 4-H Motto and Pledge and Melanie Hedley gave a short prayer. Analyn Bohensky sang the National Anthem.

PTC had its first meeting of the school year this past week. Officers were elected and they are: Perry Covington, President; Keith Davis, Vice President; Victoria Tedder, Secretary; and Kaci Morrison, Treasurer. Individuals and families are encouraged to join PTC. I’ll speak as a teacher and a parent when I say our PTC is a great organization that works hard for our students and campus.

A successful first week of school is behind us. It is so fun to see eager young ones, reluctant middle school students, and passive high school students on the first day of school. I know some were ready for school, while others were bored and ready to see friends they missed over the summer.The Indians took on the Abilene Christian Panthers, the 2011 Division 1 TAAPS defending state champs, on Saturday.

The Armadillo Football Camp went great last week, and the Armadillo coaching staff appreciates all the parents sending their kids this year. We had 40 campers this year and they all seemed to enjoy it. High School football is approaching fast and we want to remind all the players and parents/guardians about some dates and information that players and parents/guardians need to take care of prior to our first practice.

The San Saba Ladies Golf Association held their Four Lady Pecan Classic Tournament on June 24, 2012 with all four San Saba teams competing in the money. Our own, Shelby Hardy, who is playing on the golf team at Sam Houston, competed for the first time in our ladies tournament and she was impressive along with her teammates, her mother, Betty Sue Hardy, her teammate Laura Reynolds, and Sandra Baskin.

The summer is off to a great start! This week many students are participating in the basketball camp during the day and enjoying VBS at the Baptist Church in the evenings. There has been a lot of activity at Riggs Grain Company in San Saba this spring. Local farmers have the wheat hauled in by trucks to Riggs Grain Company where they are loaded into train cars and shipped out. The company exports most of the grain; for example, the first shipments this year were sent to Algeria flour mills.

On April 14 our Middle School Tennis Team after 3 days of practice played in the Lampasas tennis tournament. Teams in the tournament were San Saba, Lampasas, Copperas Cove, Marble Falls, Brownwood and Brady. We competed well considering the lack of practice as the other teams had been practicing since Sept.

On April 24th, San Saba Bird and Nature Club sponsored a birding event in the LCRA San Saba River Nature Park. San Angelo’s Concho Valley Bird Banders and volunteers from SSB&NC helped more than 250 people increase their appreciation of the natural world we all share. After seeing the announcement in this month’s Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine, folks from as far away as Leander, Arlington, and Belton attended.

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD was held Monday, April 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk, called the meeting to order, established a Quorum present with all in attendance, welcomed everyone to the meeting, followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

April 12 - 14,San Saba High School FCCLA students competed and worked for three days in Dallas at the Anatole Hotel. Students also had the opportunity to listen to great motivational speakers, had a concert and a dance and of course lots of fun. Students worked at least one day at competition as a door monitor, runner, or time keeper for events that they were not competing in.
