The donations of generous contributors at San Saba’s annual Catkins Ball are currently being used to restore two historic downtown buildings. The property commonly known as the Burden Hotel has been renovated and only landscaping work is left to be completed. The other building now being restored is the San Saba County Courthouse Annex, formerly occupied by the City National Bank. If you drove past Mill Pond last week, you probably noticed it was drained. The Parks Department had to do so to repair part of the north bank to stop seepage through the wall. Best estimates have the wall being built in 1922. Ninety one years of faithful use is a pretty good testimony to durability.

On Feb. 5, the Dillos continued their quest for a playoff birth when they hosted DeLeon. This was another important game for the Dillos since we needed to win out to put us in playoff position. The first time we played them, we won 54-37. This one had a much different outcome.

The JH Indians finished their basketball season this past weekend at the District Tournament in Eden. The Lady Indians lost to Lohn in the Consolation game by two points. The Indians were defeated by Menard in the 3rd place game. Thank you to all the parents and fans who travelled with us this season! The Lady Indians will finish their basketball season on Tuesday against Richland Springs.

San Saba County was one of the first of a month-long campaign to celebrate Texas courthouses. The San Saba City Council held a regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 14th at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Pro-tem, Shawn Oliver called the meeting to order. Alderman Martha Leigh Whitten, gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags. Jose Rocha, an employee of the Parks Department, was awarded the Employee of the Month for January.

The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a Regular Meeting on Monday, January 14th at 7:15 p.m. in the Central Administration office. President, Kim Kirk called the meeting to order and established a quorum was present, which was followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
