Second and Wallace Church of Christ treated the seniors of San Saba High School to a spaghetti lunch on November 29th.

Wonderful volunteers from the church made a nice hot lunch which included spaghetti, homemade garlic bread, and dessert of fresh homemade cookies which was served with bottled water.

After making the scrumptious lunch in the Church fellowship hall, the volunteers transported all the goodies to The Daily Mix on the square where the lunch was served. Many tables and chairs were brought in and set up to accommodate the students.

Workers had an assembly line putting the plates together while they were waiting on the students. They prepared 75 meals in styrofoam to-go boxes. The students arrived, most of them riding on a school bus, around 11:45 a.m. They filed in, grabbed their water bottle and their hot meal, and started eating. Some of them sat at the tables, some of them sat at the counter, and some of them even sat around on the floor. There were a few of them that got their food to go and made their way back to the school.

According to Dee George of The Daily Mix, there we're approximately 60 meals served, and some students came back for seconds. There was even one young student going around collecting cookies to take home for his siblings, and another student was saving a plate to take home to someone in their family.

After also feeding the volunteers who brought the students from the school, the ladies from the church made good use of the remaining meals by taking most of them to Meals on Wheels clients around town.

The students were very grateful for the hot meal and were very thankful to the church volunteers who gave them the special treat. They were especially appreciative that everything was homemade.

Volunteers helping with the meal were Michelle Whitley, Mickey Bishop, Debbie Kohnle, Pam Wallace, Dee George, Rosemary Vasquez, and Stephanie Hibbler who made the bread, and Ree Charlton who made all the cookies.

Special thanks to Dee George for providing additional information for this article.

Many people look upon the Christmas season as a time to share God's love and to be kind to others. That is truly what happened at this spaghetti lunch!
