Hello, dearest San Saba loves! Does everyone feel as though they need a good half hour in the dryer after the ridiculous amount of rain we’ve endured? This dachshund not only needs a towel drying after every walk, but I am seriously considering counseling after being sequestered in this small house with mom for days upon end!

How do I say this without an ounce of judgment? Mom is like a faucet with a drip when it comes to talking; it becomes annoying unless you are able to escape the incessant, repetitive noise occasionally. When we lived in our large place, I could escape to our second bedroom, hide in the second bathroom, or go out on the patio for alone time, but here, every room is pretty much the same room! The woman talks to me... at times I think she still talks to her childhood imaginary friend, and who knows, she may even talk to the doll she once constructed out of an empty Clorox bottle! She also asks me the most ridiculous questions… “Lenny, do you want some chicken?” One day I am going to silence her by gagging, jumping on the couch, and throwing a blanket over my dachshund body! Told you I need the sun to shine!

We got some exciting news! Mom’s youngest sister, Katherine, who lives in San Francisco will be in Austin in the middle of the month and is going to come to San Saba to see mom and meet me for the first time. I am very excited! I met her sister, Carol, who lives in Hawaii, and now I will get to meet her other younger sister. Mom comes from a tribe… two older sisters, an older brother, two younger sisters and a younger brother. Her older siblings were born in Europe, and mom was the first Texan, along with all the others. Me and mom are the only ones who still live in Texas.

Mom got a new bed last week, and um, it is not much bigger than my dog bed! After Everrett’s Furniture delivered it, I made myself comfortable, looked at mom sitting on the couch and asked her where she planned to sleep? Dachshunds are notorious for stretching their long bodies like rubber bands when they sleep, but as it turns out, I now sleep, head on pillow wrapped in mom’s arms. Sometimes life works out beautifully.

We hope you have a truly wonderful time until next we speak! Stay safe and take very good care. We love you to chicken bits!
