60 Years Ago April 16, 1964

Philip James Dick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rader Dick, has maintained the standard of scholarship necessary to be placed on the Honor List at Southern Methodist University. Dick, a junior government and foreign language major, has been placed on the Dean's list each semester and in 1963 he received recognition as a University scholar.

Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Sr. are the parents of son John Jr., 6 pounds, 7 ounces, born April 6.

Mr. and Mrs. Apolinar Trejo are the parents of a daughter, Diana, 6 pounds, born April 9.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hernandez are the parents of a son, Samuel Hernandez, 7 pounds, ten ounces, born April 10.

Bill Tidwell has contributed several trees and shrubs to Mill Pond Park, Mrs. Charles Chrane, member of the Park Board, has announced. Tidwell gave a Sunburst Locust tree in memory of Kelly Owen. He also gave two mountain ash, a magnolia tree and 50 red salvia.

San Saba tennis teams won six first places and two seconds to capture the top score in the Marble Falls Invitational Tennis Meet, Coach Charles Chrane has announced. School participating included Austin, Bastrop, Burnet, Goldthwaite, Bertram, Fredericksburg, San Saba and Marble Falls. Jerry Ned Oliver won the senior boys' singles in split sets over a boy from Bastrop. Susan Walker placed second in girls' singles and the girls' doubles match was won by Elizabeth Howell and Nancy Kidd.

50 Years Ago April 18, 1974

Linda Cobb will represent San Saba High School in the UIL Area Contest. Miss Cobb won first place in the District Ready Writing Contest held in Marble Falls.

Gary Kemp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kemp, was among Texas Tech students honored at an awards banquet held on campus. He received the agriculture engineering faculty award for outstanding service; also the academic award for highest grade in mechanized agriculture.

San Saba junior Lance Longley, an Advertising Art 1 student at Southwest Texas State University was presented a check for $75.00 by San Marcos Company official, Pat Price. Longley won second place in logo design competition sponsored by the local telephone company. Longley has been an employee at the News & Star in the summer.

Mr. and Mrs. E. M. House, Bert and Cheri, of Paducah were Easter weekend visitors with their parent, Mr. and Mrs. Curt Zant of Big Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer House.

Linda Cobb, bride-elect of Floyd Shahan, was honored with a kitchen shower in the home of Dr. Land Mrs. Bob Trotter. Hostesses were Laura Lee Trotter, Carla Reid and Marilyn Brister. White cake squares decorated wit blue, punch and blue mints were served to 15 guests.

All that snickering and chuckling going on at the Cherokee Feed Store has to do with an event on a certain Sunday night in the vicinity of Cherokee Creek. We are told there were at least two 'streakers' involved in the incident. We would tell you ore about it but the facts are a little bare at this time.
