Junior Coyotes cut Blanket JH down to size .....36-20

The Richland Springs Junior High Coyotes put on an inspiring display of heart and True Grit against the Blanket Junior High Tigers last Thursday night at Coyote Field in Richland Springs. It was a classic David and Goliath story as the Tigers were BIG and I mean really BIG!!! These boys weren’t just kids that were slow and overweight. They were tall and lean and athletic, definitely future customers of Bubba’s Big and Tall Menswear in downtown Blanket. The Coyotes just kept cutting and chopping and blocking and tackling until these mighty Tigers became just another victim of the historic Coyote football program.

HOW BOUT THEM COYOTES !!!!

By Mike Cohn

The Richland Springs Coyotes held off the Blanket Tigers last Friday night in Blanket to clinch their 13th consecutive district title. For the third week in a row, the Coyotes were pushed into the waning minutes of the fourth quarter, before finally securing the victory. For the Coyote Faithful, accustomed to many years of halftime mercy rule victories, the last few weeks have been very stressful. The Cardiac Coyotes of 2013 feature 3 freshman with significant playing time, a first year sixman sophomore and 2 juniors with very little varsity experience. The never-say-die Coyotes make up for their lack of experience with a whole truckload of heart and desire to win. That particular trait seems to be common among the footballers that drink the water in Richland Springs. Or, maybe its the Kool-Aid, served by Coaches Burkhart, Rogers, Tipton, and Ethridge???

San Saba Cross Country News

By Coach Lasley.

On October 23rd our high school and middle school cross country teams traveled to Hico’s Bluebonnet Country Club for the District 15-1A championships and brought home plaques in every divisions we entered. Out of the eleven teams in the District there is no doubt that San Saba is the most selfish. These athletes just do not want to share awards with any of the other schools in the district. Just kidding! Honestly they work their tails off and enjoyed and celebrated success in all divisions.

5th and 6th Grade Armadillos advance to championship for 2nd time in 3 years

San Saba (3-3) defeated Liberty Hill (5-1) last Saturday 19-13. The hard fought win helped the Dillos move on to the division 2 championship. San Saba won the toss and elected to receive. Jackson Nelson, JT Moreno, Jett Hibler, Cutter Daniels and Daniel Herrera opened up huge holes on the opening drive. James Whitney had several good runs before he finally went off the right side for a 30 yd touchdown. John Samual May dove over the middle for the extra point (kicking an extra point is worth two in the youth league). This brought the score 7-0 midway through the 1st.
