Congratulations to Nickie Ortiz for making the 2014 FCA Softball All-Star Game! This is a great accomplishment and I am very proud of her. Nickie will be unable to participate in the All-Star game due to an educational field trip this summer. Congratulations again on this prestigious honor!
The Lady Dillo Golf Team competed at the Brownwood Country Club on Monday, February 24. The team finished 5th with 412, behind Coppers Cove, 1st with 363, Gatesville, 2nd with 380, San Angelo Central, 3rd, with 386, Lampasas, 4th, with 399.
The Lady Dillo Golf Team traveled to Lake Proctor on Wednesday, March 5 to compete in the Comanche High School Invitational. They competed well scoring a tournament low 394 to win the Championship, followed by 2nd place Jim Ned with 412, 3rd place Wylie with 421, 4th place Comanche with 445, 5th place Merkel with 458, 6th place Eastland with 485, and 7th place Gustine with 503. Clyde, Dublin, Bangs, Cisco and Goldthwaite had several medalists competing as well.
Kolton Ellis and Kelan Verette have been selected to participate in the Fellowhip of Christian Athletes/ Big Country Chevy Dealers All-Star Festival in June. Kolton was chosen to play for the South baseball squad. The game will be played June 13th in San Angelo. Kelan was chosen to represent the South in the All-Star football game. The football game is scheduled for June 14th in Abilene..
The High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Dillos started their track season in Junction on Saturday March the 1st. Ridge Smith led the track team with a gold medal in the 800 and silver in the 400. His time of 2:12 was his personal record and a great time for this early in the track season. Austin McCombs also brought home a gold medal with a jump of 6’0 in the high jump. Jessie Franco and McCombs also placed 4th in final in the 100 and 200. The track team had many members playing baseball Saturday and hopes to carry the full team to Llano this coming Thursday.
The San Saba High School Academic Booster Club was proud to once again honor the students who consistently show dedication to academic achievement by serving them a special lunch. Seventy-eight students, grades 9-12, were given a specially prepared meal of mesquite grilled hamburgers, chips, sweet tea and ice cream sundaes. Each student qualified for the lunch by having a 4.2 or higher grade point average for the previous 3rd and 4th six weeks.
The San Saba boy’s powerlifting team finished up a very successful regular season this past Thursday. We had five boys compete in Meridian, in what was a “last chance” meet for regional qualifying hopefuls. When it was over, all five boys placed. As a team, we won the meet, and all five of these young men have advanced to the regional meet that will be held in a couple of weeks in Whitney.
The District 12 1A Division 1 boys all-district selections were released on Monday. The Armadillo Basketball team was represented very well this year after a very good season. The Armadillo Basketball teams ended the season with a record of 22-8, and were Co- District Champs.
The District 12 A Division 1 Academic All District selections were released Monday. Earning Academic All-District Honors from the San Saba Boys Basketball team were Kelan Verette, Kolton Ellis, Garrett Welch, Josh Cazares, John Welch and Holt Oliver.
