Eva Louise (Berry) Yarbrough

Eva Louise (Berry) Yarbrough, 76, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 around 7:50 a.m. in her home in Cherokee, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas. Services under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home San Saba. Eva joins her soul mate, Lawton, in heaven. She leaves behind her children: two sons, Larry Yarbrough and wife, Lori, of Grand Prairie and Tommy Yarbrough and his girlfriend, Velva Adams, of Cherokee; one daughter, Donna Roberts and husband, Monty, of Cherokee, Texas; grandchildren: Clayton Yarbrough, Chase & Kelsey Yarbrough, Chelsie Yarbrough, Storm Yarbrough, Chan & Jose Valdes, Markie & J.R. Shaw, Duncan & Mysti Roberts, Amber Mungia and Kaitlyn Smith (adopted granddaughters).

David C. Vela

David C. Vela, 72, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016. A Rosary was held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba. Mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in San Saba on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. with interment at San Saba Cemetery. David was born in San Saba, Texas to Augustine and Anita (Cisneroz) Vela on December 10, 1943. After High School he joined his father, Augustine, in the pecan and sheep shearing business for many, many years. Later he worked as a security guard in the prison systems of Texas. David loved to play pool, winning many trophies along the way and enjoyed being at the lake. David was never married and had no children, but loved his nieces like they were his own. Survivors include one sister, Odelia Gonzales of Cleburne, Texas; two nieces, Irma Garcia of San Saba, Texas and Linda Bell of Cleburne, Texas. Many other nieces and nephews.

Billy Wash

Billy Wash, 71, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Arlington, Texas. He is survived by his two daughters, grandchildren Justin, Corey, Chelsea, Harley and Haley. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday February 26, at Wade Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Wade Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday February 27, at Richland Springs Cemetery.

James Derrell Epperson

James Derrell Epperson passed away with family by his side on February 19, 2016 at the age of 92. James was born on August 20, 1923 in Llano County to Jim and Elizabeth Smith Epperson. He was raised on ranch land settled by his pioneer ancestors in the Valley Spring area. In his early years, James was a curious and adventurous young boy who loved exploring the land around him and predicating excitement amongst his siblings with their daily work. A horseman with multiple talents, James became a champion calf roper and rancher extraordinaire. James graduated from Cherokee High School in 1941 and then attended Tarleton State University and Texas A&M University. After completing 1 year of Veterinary Medicine, Uncle Sam called he spent the next 3 years in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Medical Technician. Upon his discharge, James returned to the land he loved in Llano County with his new bride Betty Evelyn Sifford where they lived and ranched for 70 years.

Mike Gonzales

Mike Gonzales, 86, passed away on February 9, 2016 in San Saba, Texas. Rosary was held on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba. Mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. with interment at San Saba Cemetery. Mike was born in San Saba, Texas on September 11, 1929 to Mike Gonzales Sr. and Amelia (Vela) Gonzales. He married Marta Reyes on August 25, 1951 in San Saba, Texas and spent 64 wonderful years together. Mike picked cotton in his younger years and then started shearing sheep for a living and continue to do the hard work for many, many years. His favorite football teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. He loved to play the lottery. Mike loved his family very much.

Wanda Davenport

Wanda Davenport, age 87, of San Saba, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in Fredericksburg, Texas. Wanda was born to Wiley A. Robbins and Eula Mae Haley in San Saba County. Wanda graduated from Goldthwaite High School in 1943. In 1950 she married T. A. Davenport in Mills County. She was a homemaker and loving mother. She and T. A. owned Central Texas Insurance Agency. Wanda loved to play bridge and go on trips with her friends. She loved her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The warm smile she had will be missed. Wanda is survived by her children: Dave and wife, Susie of Arlington, Texas; Dick and wife, Isabel Davenport of Laredo, Texas; grandchildren: Debbie and Stuart Smith of Amarillo, Texas; Chris and Becky Davenport of San Antonio, Texas; Michael Davenport of Palo Alto, California; Matthew and Vanessa Davenport of Laredo, Texas; five great grandchildren, one sister, Nina Gauny of Richmond, Texas, and two nephews.

Leota Hortense (McDaniel) Mann

Leota Hortense (McDaniel) Mann, affectionately known as “Tense” and “Ma Mann” by her friends and family, wentto be with the LordonFebruary1,2016atherhome in Weatherford, Texas. Services will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba. Interment will follow at Richland Springs cemetery. Dr. Barry Fikes will be officiating. Leota was born August 30, 1924 in San Saba, Texas to Lela Roberta and William Isaac McDaniel. She was the fifth of six siblings and a fourth generation Texan. She was a “country girl” who, in her early years, loved to pick fruit, pick up pecans, gather eggs and work in the garden. She walked a mile to catch the school bus and often rode on the back of a horse for transportation. She was crowned Football Sweetheart her junior year and was a cheerleader her junior and senior years. She graduated from Richland Springs High School in 1943 where she excelled in softball, volleyball and tennis.

Nell Imogene Harris

Nell Imogene Harris, 82, passed away in her home in Fort Worth, Texas on January 25, 2016. Graveside Services were held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Richland Springs Cemetery in Richland Springs, Texas. Arrangements under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba,Texas. Nell was born to Jesse James and Edna Inez Summers on March 23, 1933 in Holt, Texas. After High School in Richland Springs, Nell married Donald K. Harris in Napa, CA. Together they had 2 children. Nell spent her  whole married life caring for her family and took great pride in being a music minister’s wife. She loved to sew and she loved her family greatly.

Sharon Steffey Cook

Sharon Steffey Cook, age 62, of San Saba passed away Saturday, January 23, 2015, at a local nursing home in San Saba. Graveside services for Sharon will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2016, in the Coleman City Cemetery with Pastor Barry Fikes officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Sharon was born on December 13, 1953, to Arthur and Norma (Simpson) Steffey in Coleman, Texas. She attended First Baptist Church of San Saba. Sharon enjoyed knitting, cooking, and loved to play Skip-Bo. Sharon is survived by her two sons, Charles Fleming and wife, Jennifer of San Saba, Melvin Fleming and wife, Misty of Vancourt; grandkids, Shyan Limmer, Colten Limmer, Westyn Fleming, Jadyn Fleming, and Jimma Fleming; brothers, Danny Steffey and wife, Shannon of Marshfield, MO, Donald Steffey and wife, Patti of Lake Brownwood. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Stephen Gray Behrens

Stephen Gray Behrens, 63, of San Saba, Texas, passed away on January 20, 2016 at his home in Pecan Grove. Funeral Services were held Saturday, January 23, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home in San Saba. Stephen was born to Arnold Clinton Behrens and Juna Gray Oliver on April 17, 1953 in San Saba, Texas. He spent his life in San Saba where he worked and raised his family. Stephen was known to volunteer in his community. He was an electrician, plumber, and could fix just about anything. Stephen loved to fish and hunt. He was the father of two and grandfather of four. Stephen is survived by a daughter, Crystal Behrens McCormick and husband, David; son, Aaron Behrens and wife, Lauren; granddaughters: Makenna, Melany, Maizy Behrens and Allison McCormick; sister, Marsha Behrens Smart and husband, David; nephews: J.D. Smart, Shae Smart and Erick Smart and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
