San Saba Rotary Club to offer 2014 Candidates' Forum

The San Saba County Rotary Club will be offering a 2014 Candidates' Forum. The Forum will be held February 13, 2014, from 6:00-8:30p.m. at the San Saba Civic Center. Candidates appearing are as follows:
Danny Pelton - State Representative
Howard "Eddie" Ray - State Representative
J.D. Sheffield - State Representative
Dan Mills - District Judge
Evan Stubbs - District Judge
Danna Boswell - County Treasurer
Lois Van Beck - County Treasurer
It is anticipated there will also be an up-ticket speaker.

San Saba business ravaged by fire

The Double G Pit Stop, at 1108 W. Wallace, San Saba, Texas was ravaged by fire early Monday morning, January 27th. San Saba Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 2:00 a.m. and Fire Marshall Al Hamrick was notified by Fire Chief Chris Stewart at 2:30 a.m. When Hamrick arrived at the scene, the approximately 13 firefighters had the fire contained. The metal building and contents were destroyed.

San Saba City Council holds scheduled meeting January 13th

The San Saba City Council held a regular session on Monday, January 13th at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall. Mayor Pro-Tem Martha Leigh Whitten, called the session to order and announced a quorum present. Amado Vasquez, Jr., employee of the Park Department, was awarded the Employee of the Month Award. His name was added to the plaque and was presented with a certificate from a local restaurant and a day off with pay.

Commissioners issue County-Wide Burn Ban

The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, January 12th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the Court to order. Commissioner Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone  joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags

Speakers and exhibits scheduled for January 18th San Saba County Quilt Show

San Saba Texas will host the San Saba County Quilt Show on Saturday, January 18 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at various downtown locations. The 2014 theme is “Texas, Our Texas” and will showcase quilts from the following categories: theme, antique, contemporary, wall hanging and art quilts. Entry forms can be downloaded from the San Saba Chamber of Commerce web site, Facebook, through the City of San Saba, or

American Legion to meet Thursday

The veterans of the American Legion, Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27, will hold their quarterly meeting on Thursday, January 9th, 2014 at the Legion Hall in San Saba. The building will be opened at 5:30 P.M. for social
time. Supper will be served at 6:30 P.M. A meal of barbeque chicken, potatoes and red beans will be served

SSHS opens new classes second semester

The start of the second semester brought exciting things to San Saba High School. Two new classes were formed this semester to provide students with the opportunity to experience real world occupations and the opportunity to earn certifications to use in the future.

Texas Family Land Heritage Program honors John (Buddie) and Bettie Oliver

Each year the Texas Family Land Heritage Program honors the families that have land that has been owned and operated continuously by family for 100, 150 and 200 years. John (Buddie) and Bettie Oliver were honored at the program held at the Texas State Capitol on November 7, 2013. Buddie's grandfather, John Thomas Oliver, purchased the land in the Pecan Grove Community in 1909. Also attending were Thomas and Ann Alston and David Williams
