San Saba ISD awarded Loss Prevention Grant

For the sixth consecutive year San Saba ISD has been awarded the Loss Prevention Grant from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Risk Managment fund. These grants help implement loss prevention and safety initiatives that reduce the potential for property losses and on-the-job injuries, improve emergency management operations, and raise awareness of safety issues.

Past Grand Master to install new officers

On Saturday, June 25th Goldthwaite Lodge No. 694 will host the Installation of Officers for the 70th Masonic District. This includes San Saba Lodge No. 612, Mullin Lodge No. 806 & Saratoga Lodge No. 546. San Saba Lodge officers will meet at the San Saba Lodge Hall at 5:00 p.m. to close the Lodge of Sorrow in remembrance of those who passed away during the past Masonic year; James C. Johnson 5-30-16, Dewey Mack Cason 4-6-16 and Martin D. Edmondson 12-3-15. After closing, officers will carpool to Goldthwaite Lodge with aprons & regalia.

Commissioners appoint County Investment Officer

The San Saba County Commissioners Court was held on Wednesday, June 15th in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the Court to order at 9:00 a.m. Attending Court were the following: County Judge Byron Theodosis; County Commissioners, Pat Pool, Kenley Kroll, Rickey Lusty, Otis Judkins; County/ District Clerk, Kim Wells; Administrative Assistant, Loren Berryhill; County Sheriff, Matt Boswell; Judge Les Dawson.

Local student qualifies to compete at world's largest Jr. High Rodeo

Saige Sealy, an 8th-grade student at San Saba Middle School has earned a position on the Texas state/provisional National Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Lebanon, Tennessee, June 19-25 to compete at the 12th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) in the Breakaway Roping and Pole Bending competitions.

San Saba Food Challenge Team competes at State 4-H Roundup

Our local Food Challenge team was cooking up a storm again. On June 8th they competed against eleven other teams in the Fruit and Vegetable category for the State 4-H Roundup Food Challenge competition. With the four categories of Healthy Snack, Main Dish, Fruits and Vegetables, and Breads and Grains our local team of Alexis Saldivar, Samantha Everett, Sierra Lewis, and Haley Cobb were just one of forty-eight teams in the competition.

San Saba Garden Club June Yard of the Month

It has finally dried out enough for yards to be mowed and made tidy, flower beds to be weeded, and planters to be potted full of lovely blooming flowers. The June 2016 Yard of the Month is awarded to Chuck and Nancy Van Etten.

Fall Master Gardener classes planned

The Texas Department of Transportation will conduct a public meeting for the purpose of soliciting public comment on the proposed improvements to Farm to Market Road 45 in San Saba County, from the Mills County line to the north city limits of Richland Springs. The meeting will be held at the Richland Springs Independent School District cafetorium, 700 W. Coyote Trail, Richland Springs, Texas 76871 on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. The meeting will be an open house format from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., with a brief formal presentation beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Emergency personnel respond to swift water rescue call

On June 2, 2016 at approximately 12:45 p.m. the San Saba Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a car that was swept down a low water crossing. The passenger was able to get out of the vehicle to shore, but the driver was unable to make it to shore and was hanging on to a small tree in the water.

San Saba High School Students Honored with Local and University Scholarships

Friday, May 27 at a beautiful graduation ceremony hosted at the First Baptist Church, San Saba High School graduates were recognized for their hard work and pursuit of post-secondary training with a variety of wonderful scholarships. The San Saba community is so very generous in their monetary recognition of these students who have worked so very hard, and who will go on to represent this community with excellence and success in their college and training program.
