David Howard Edmondson, 92, of Comanche, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014. Funeral services, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, were held at the Heartland Chapel Friday, April 4, 2014,
with Harold Higginbotham officiating. Graveside ceremony, with military honors, followed atSardis Cemetery in Hasse. Condolences to the family may be left online at heartlandfuneralhome @hotmail.com. Howard was born March 5, 1922, in San Saba, TX, to Samuel David and Addie Belle (Carter) Edmondson. He served in the United States Army during World War  II. Howard was stationed in the Pacific in 1942-1946, being part of the Philippine Liberation forces and earning multiple commendations. Howard was a man of many talents. When he was 18 he owned a gas station in San Saba until he was 20 when he sold it because he was drafted into the army. After he came back from the army he ended up in Odessa where he was a supervisor for both Frost and Bairds Bread companies in Odessa. He also worked for the City of Odessa. He moved to San Saba from Odessa where he owned a pecan orchard. He sold his pecan orchard and settled in Proctor with his wife, Joycelyn. His last years were spent at the Whitestone in Comanche. Howard was an entrepreneur, constantly finding various methods of
work and most of all how to help people. He quietly went about his benevolent work, witnessing to people and leading many to Jesus Christ, which he began early in life as he was baptized at age 13 in the San Saba River.
Howard is survived by daughters, Tommye Joyce Jones, Betty Richardson and husband Bill of Proctor, and Jackie Smith; grandchildren, Christina Richardson of Houston, Jennifer Richardson of Houston, William David Pitts and wife Cheryl of Needville, TX, Christopher Dibrell Pitts and wife Sheila of Trinity, FL; great-grandchildren Dana Pitts Bond and husband William of Sugarland, TX, Sarah Pitts Cuthbert and husband Daniel of Katy, TX, Katherine Grace Pitts of Needville, Matthew Cole Pitts and Megan Alyse Pitts both of Trinity, FL; great-great-grandchildren, Jonah Thomas Bond and Rachel Elizabeth Bone, both of Sugarland; nephew, Donald Alderman and wife Cathy of Comanche. Howard was preceded in death by his wife of almost 54 years, Joycelyn; parents, Samuel and Addie Belle Edmondson, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
