A few weeks ago I wrote an article about Mr. Willis Newton’s travel from Arkansas to Texas as described in his manuscript entitled The Recollections of an Octogenarian with the hope of becoming a cattle baron in West Texas. He arrived in the San Saba area in 1860. The War Between the States had just begun. There was a belief that the war would be over quickly, but it continued and continued.
