Mrs. Jo Nell Maxcey Huntington passed from this life peacefully at home Sunday morning, December 22, 2013. She would have celebrated her 95th birthday on January 16th, 2014. She was born January 16, 1919 in San Saba County, Texas, the daughter of Kate Adams and C.A. Maxcey. After graduating from Richland Springs High School, she  attended college and traveled to Houston where she met and married Robert J. Smith with whom she enjoyed many Jo Nell Maxcey Huntington happy years of marriage until his death in 1967. During these years, she was employed as a claims adjustor for Cravens Dargan and later worked for the Houston Independent  School District. She and “Smitty’ had much fun with their two Airedale Terriers, Penny and Tex. She began a new chapter in her life when she met and married Fritz H. Huntington. Their life together was one filled with love, laughter, family, and friends. The Santa Fe community was a cherished part of Jo Nell’s and Fritz’s lives. She was passionate in her service to the Arcadia Christian Church and greatly relished her membership in the  community garden club. Aunt Jo was the matriarch of her family as she provided love, support, guidance and even shelter as needed to her siblings and their children. She was so proud of her upbringing, roots, and neighborhood friends who were always watching out for her and kept in touch. A fiercely independent woman she remained at home, caring for herself until too tired to go on. Her family would like to express a special gratitude to lifelong neighbors and friends Gudrin Cokins and Kathy Buchanan for their continuous care and love to our “Aunt Jo”.
