Jennings Bryan Mitchell, Jr., 90, of Richland Springs, Texas, and longtime Waco resident, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Waco Memorial Park South (Chapel Hill) with Mr. Ernie Christie officiating. Bryan was born on September 20, 1923, in La Porte, Texas, to  Jennings Bryan Mitchell, Sr., and Bessie Viola (Cline) Mitchell. He served in the US Army  during World War II, and was a part of the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland, earning a total of 4 Bronze Stars. Bryan worked, and retired from General Tire & Rubber Company in Waco; 
and he was the founding president of GENCO Credit Union. He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Pollock on June 18, 1946. Together, they had two sons, and built their life in Waco, Texas. He was a member of the Lakeshore Church of Christ in Waco, and later attended the Church of Christ in Richland Springs; where he moved after his wife’s passing in 2006. Bryan loved the outdoors! He loved camping with his family, and was an ardent fisherman. He enjoyed farm work, and could spend hours on a tractor. He was a great supporter and contributor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and to animal rescue facilities. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; one son, Bryan Timothy Mitchell; and two brothers, Garlan Edward Mitchell and Gene Arlan Mitchell. He leaves behind a son, John Mitchell and wife Lili, of Richland Springs; three grandchildren: Eric Mitchell, Courtney Mitchell, and wife Sarah, and Collin Mitchell Avila, and husband Pablo; sisters-inlaw: Patsy Ruth Utley and Ina Ross Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews. All of whom he loved dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family  requests that donations be made to your local or area animal rescue facility or No-Kill shelter.
