Mary Frances Herrington of San Saba, Texas, peacefully passed into the presence of Jesus Christ on April 26, 2024. Her family and friends rejoice that her steadfast faith sustained her and that her earthly struggles have come to an end.

Mary Frances was born in Cat Claw, Texas, on September 16, 1936. She grew up in and around San Saba, Texas, most of her early years, except for the short time her family moved to California to work in the shipyards. She graduated from San Saba High School in 1955 and married Don Portie soon afterwards. They had two children, Don Quentin Portie and Lee Ann Miller.

In addition to her life as a wife and stay-at-home mom, Mary Frances enjoyed the challenge of tractor work and truck driving. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, garage sales and auctions, fishing and horses, especially her beloved Ringo.

For the past two decades, she enjoyed being married to her best friend and soul mate, George Herrington. Through George, she inherited a beautiful second family that brought her much pride and joy.

Mary Frances will be remembered for her contagious positive attitude, her friendly smile and her unwavering love of God, which she enthusiastically shared with anyone she met.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Llano Hospital, the nurses, Gina, Lee, aka the candyman, Aaron, Candace, Michelle and the staff at San Saba Rehabilitation and Nursing, as well as Rena and Solaris Hospice for the loving care they provided in her last days.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the individuals who visited, called, sent cards, plants or brought food. She truly felt your love and was blessed by your care and concern.

Mary Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Quentin Durwood and Dona Lee Mullins; her brother, Joe Mullins; and her husbands: Don Portie, Jack Walling, and George Herrington.

She is survived by many loving family members which include her children: Don Quentin Portie (Patricia, deceased) and Lee Ann Miller (Vince) and their son Matthew Christian Miller (who lovingly referred to her as “Nanny”); her stepchildren: Jayme White, James Herrington (Nancy), Janet Brister (Gene) and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandson; her sister, Sheila Smithhart (Thomas) and their children: Thomas Jr. (Patti), Brenda Wilde (Ralph), and Judy Smithhart and grand nieces and nephews; her cousins: Forestine Maglietta (Herb, deceased) and Nettie Jean Randolph; her sister in love, Hattie Rogers (George, deceased), step-nephews Brian Rogers (Nancy, deceased) and Joe Rogers (Donna).

Mary Frances will be greatly missed this side of Heaven. A private graveside memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials are made to your favorite church, charity or organization.
