The quilting ladies wrapped up, or should I say sewed up, another quilting retreat at Emily’s Haus in Stonewall. We have been going there since 2012 in June and January. The scenery is peaceful and impressive at the same time. This visit we remained inside since a very brisk chilly wind was blowing down the mountain and across the pasture. They have deer and turkey wandering up to the feeders just down from the balcony and beautiful banded Galloway cattle grazing below us. Our hosts, the Huffman family, (Jack, Kay, and Caroline), are gifted in multiple areas. There rooms are a delight, and all three are great cooks. We opted to make our own food this time and apparently, we all have difficulty with portion measurements. There was a ton of food. I accomplished less than I normally do, but I brought my weekend to a halt when I took a shortcut and managed to cut my block instead of the strip I needed. Life thought for all, shortcuts never work.

The basketball teams have games on the 23rd, 25th, 26th, and the 30th. One Act Play will have a clinic in Brownwood on the 25th. The boys will play Rochelle on the 23rd; junior high will play Lometa on the 25th; high school boys will play Lohn on the 26th, and Brookesmith on the 30th. I don’t see any girl’s games on the schedule. Our prayers for speedy recovery go out to Lili Appleton. She is an important part of our girls’ basketball team and will be missed as she recovers from her injury.

I may have to cut more wood if this cold hangs around much longer. I suggested to Russ that we head farther south in the winter, but he would rather stay hunkered up under his blanket and stay home. Just when I was thinking I could take him to Central America for the winter, he let me know that was out of the question. Thank heavens I have sisters who like warm weather.

Chrissy and I attended a meeting in San Saba and presented a bank program to a group of interested people who might be interested in helping with the old bank roof replacement. The presentation highlighted the needs and the possibilities for the future. Chrissy has been contacted by a few people who would like to have space upstairs once we get it all fixed. There will be a society meeting soon to discuss actions for the future. Thank you to all the people who are showing interest in the project and to the folks who have sent in donations for the roof. RS BoHo and Shoppe 1910 have taken down their Christmas decorations and replaced them with Valentine’s Day displays. Let’s keep our small town busy. I haven’t said it in a while, but we need a return of common civility in our everyday life. We don’t seem to know how to talk to one another, how to debate issues, how to be polite, even how to use common manners. Grandma would not be happy with some of us.

Prayers are needed for our world peace, our overrun country, and our dysfunctional Congress. We need some peace and order in all areas of American life. We need prayers for our border patrol agents and the National Guard helping with the border. So many families are grieving this week after losing a loved one. Johnny Reeves is still fighting the good fight but needs our prayers as he continues his chemo. Prayers are needed for the Ferol Martin family.

Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
