The Richland Springs Report

Apparently, I had a typo last week regarding the Men’s Breakfast in the Tabernacle. This monthly event will be this Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. Everyone in the community is welcome; dads feel free to bring your son to enjoy the fellowship and great food.

The back-to-school bash was absolutely enjoyed by all who attended. The water slide was especially busy, but the bounce kingdom had its fair share of visitors. I can’t tell you how many bags of ice it took to keep everyone in sno-cones, but Ian McKinnerney was kept busy. There were games to play, but the heat kept the kids tied to the water slide. I expect there will be more attending next year once the word gets around.

My daughter Chrissy has kept me busy with the lower bank room and its remodel. It has been a grueling and expensive task.

The poor old building needs a total makeover, but I’m beginning to be excited about the facelift we are giving the old gal. Hopefully, this community center focused store will be entertaining and useful to the folks in the area.

The Jr. High girls won their first volleyball game 2-1 against Strawn. They had a rough first set but pulled it together for the win. Congratulations, ladies. The varsity volleyball girls won their game on Friday. Friday evening saw wins from junior high boys and varsity boys against Olefin. The final score for varsity was a 52-0 win enforcing the mercy rule. There will be another home game this week followed by the third Fifth Quarter of the year. On behalf of the members of the Shiloh and First Baptist congregations that provide the meal for the kids, I want to say thank you for coming and gracing us with your presence. It’s always a delight to see you after a hardfought game.

Progress reports will be going out this week. Athletes and coaches tend to stay on top of grades since failing grades keep them out of games. Be on the look out for these in the mail.

I am enjoying my time as a sub for Coach Ethridge. We are all waiting for a good report from his doctors and for his return to the classroom. We have such good kids in our school. They aren’t perfect, but they sure are sweet. I enjoy older kids because I can deal with attitudes should they pop up. I love the exchange of opinions and listening to their blossoming viewpoints. Sometimes they are a little rough, but it’s part of growing up and learning. One of the things we are losing in our society is the ability to hear differing opinions and debate topics to understand others. Naturally, part of that exchange needs to be with respect and civility for others.

The ladies quilting group will resume their Tuesday meetings on the 6th. All ladies in the area are welcome to join in this weekly quilting and Bible study. The ladies will leave next week for a quilting retreat. I’m told there is room for two more ladies.

Covid is popping up around the area. It seems to be more flulike, and shots will be available for those who take them. I’m not a great shot person.

Johnny Reeves is doing well with his cancer treatments as is Jeremy Young. That is good news for their families and friends. Lesa Landrum is having surgery to repair a previous surgery. Bea Soto has gone to be with her brother-in-law who has been sent home to be with his family. Mary McKee and Jean McKee are recovering from recent hospital visits. There are many others needing prayer. I hear prayers for rain throughout the area. Times are desperate and everyone is feeling the pain of this long drought.

Please keep everyone and our rain issues high on your priority list.

Pray for our country, our government and our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
